I am going to redo my post on carpal tunnel scar. Since it read a little wrong.
I had wanted to highlight the importance of not doing aggressive scar massage on carpal tunnel releases.
This patient arrived 6 weeks post op with 8/10 pain/ severe hypersensitivity unable to touch his palm, unable to hold his gun( teaches and competes) and very concerned about his ability to teach again. His wound on his palm was red and inflamed we deferred the grip test due to pain and sensitivity. He did not have full ROM. Pain was constant and severe. The original image was supplied by the patient and was to highlight how bad his hand looked when I saw him.
During the 6 weeks- he had performed aggressive massage constantly as instructed by his surgeon.
In 1 week from his initial eval he looked like this in the video. He was happy, excited and as you can see able to touch the scar. His palm was soft , ROM improved ( still slow so some work to do) He was also able to train people in a gun simulation-( when previously he could not have anything in his palm) which he was thrilled about. Pain was minimal and sensitivity drastically improved.
The point of my post was to show that by not being aggressive and using light vibration/ heat mini vibration balls/ cica care/ tools and tuning forks on the dorsal hand and boarders of the wound that you can turn around a person in 1 week.
I will get another video on my next visit showing again the improvement in another week-my projection is he is discharged in 3-4 visits total!
CTR rehab has to change.
