Black pepper is not just a seasoning. It can actually help your body absorb certain nutrients more effectively.

The active compound in Black pepper is called piperine. Piperine supports digestion by increasing stomach acid and stimulating digestive enzymes. It also temporarily enhances how nutrients pass through the intestinal wall, which can improve how much your body actually uses.

One of the most well known examples is Turmeric. The compound curcumin in turmeric is powerful, but it is poorly absorbed on its own. When combined with black pepper, absorption can increase by up to 2000 percent.

The supplement aisle can be overwhelming. Our goal with is to strip away the hype and look at the biological mechanisms themselves.

Today’s focus: Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN). To understand NMN, we have to look at NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide). Think of NAD+ as the "currency" your cells use to perform almost every vital function. However, NAD+ is a large molecule that the body struggle to absorb directly.
This is where NMN comes in:

•The Precursor Path: NMN is a smaller "building block." Once ingested, it is converted into NAD+ through a series of enzymatic reactions.
•Fueling the Powerhouse: Higher NAD+ levels allow your mitochondria (the cell's batteries) to convert food into ATP energy more efficiently.
•The "Repair" Switch: NMN supports Sirtuins, a family of proteins nicknamed "longevity genes." Sirtuins require NAD+ to "turn on" and begin repairing damaged DNA and protecting cells from oxidative stress.

“A calorie is a calorie is a calorie.”

If that were true, 3,000 calories of fiber would affect your body the same as 3,000 calories of alcohol… and we know that’s not how physiology works.

Quality matters.

Fiber doesn’t convert to blood sugar or get stored as fat. It improves digestion, supports healthy blood lipids, and helps control appetite. Swap low-fiber foods for higher-fiber options (without increasing total calories), and fat loss becomes easier.

Protein? Same story.
Your body prefers to use it for repair and muscle support, not quick energy. It stabilizes blood sugar, keeps cravings down, and even burns more calories during digestion (hello, thermic effect).

Takeaway:
Start by aiming for 30–35% of calories from protein and about 7g of fiber per 500 calories.
