I never thought I’d be part of the 1 in 6 experiencing infertility 💔

But here we are…And what I didn’t realize is that so many of us are quietly navigating this behind closed doors. It’s isolating and such an emotional journey…Physically, mentally, emotionally. As vulnerable as it is, sharing my experience with you has helped me feel so much less alone and supported.

I hope you know if you’re in a season of waiting, I’m here for you too 🫂

We will meet our babies one day, I’m still holding onto so much hope! ❤️

A friend said this to me recently and honestly I get it. That would be so nice!!

But I want to be real with you. So many parents enter parenthood with the crib as the plan, and then feel blindsided, like they’re failing or doing something wrong when their baby won’t sleep in it.

That’s the last thing I ever want a parent to feel!

The truth is all your baby has known for the last 9 months is you. Your body is warm, regulating, safe. A crib is cold, hard, and alone. It’s no wonder they want to be close!! It’s biology. They are hardwired for this.

So instead of only planning for the one scenario, it’s also really helpful to prepare for the alternative. Just in case!! Learn the Safe Sleep 7, set your bed up safely, consider alternatives like a floor bed, and don’t be afraid to contact nap as much as you’d like during the day time!🤱🏽

Save this to refer back to in your third trimester!! 🤗

Collecting colostrum is safe in an uncomplicated pregnancy and can be done in your last trimester, around 37 or 38 weeks.

You can do this ~1-2x/day for a ~5 minutes on each side.

Before you hand express, it can be helpful to:
🛀Take a warm shower beforehand
💆🏽‍♀️Relax and get comfortable
👶🏽Think of/look at sonogram pics of baby, all the things that give you warm and fuzzy feelings to help release oxytocin!

If you plan to do this more than once a day, you can store your collected colostrum in the fridge between collections and then label and store the syringe in the freezer with a cap on!

The one thing I wish every expecting parent knew 👇🏽

A prenatal breastfeeding consultation can be one of the most overlooked, yet most valuable, thing you can book before your baby arrives.

Imo, the third trimester is the sweet spot, and if you’re 37+ weeks, we can even practice colostrum collection together! 💫

If you’ve been told your baby needs a tongue/lip tie release, swipe through 👉🏽

A release should never be the first recommendation or done in a same day consult…It may feel like it, but a release is not an emergency procedure. And when rushed, we miss opportunities to support you and your baby in a more meaningful way.

If you have feeding, sleep, and/or airway concerns, step one should be a functional, oral motor feeding evaluation 💫

If you’re in NoVA I’d be happy to support you! Submit an inquiry on my website or text 301-615-1343 to schedule a consult today!

Comment “PACI” for a link to my fav pacifier!

Pacifiers get a bad rep, but they’re really not all that bad!

The 🔑 is intentional use (and the right paci 😉)

The is one I’m often reaching for as it’s most similar to breast anatomy. Now, it can be hard at first, esp. for a baby with oral dysfunction and ties. But with time and practice, it can really make a big difference in helping a baby develop and reinforce optimal or motor skills necessary for feeding!

If your baby is having a hard time using a paci and also experiencing feeding challenges at the breast or bottle, a feeding evaluation could be supportive.

Ramadan Mubarak! 🌙

Ramadan is the holy month where Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset. ⁣That means we do not consume any food or drinks, including water during the day!

There are many reasons one may be exempt from fasting, one of which includes being pregnant or a breastfeeding mama. ⁣

However, some breastfeeding mamas may still choose to fast. If this is you, swipe 👉🏽 for a few tips and considerations to support you during this month!

A reminder that Ramadan is about more than just physically fasting. It’s also about growing spiritually, empathy, generosity, self-discipline, acts of service such as charity and feeding those less fortunate.

You know your body, yourself and your baby best! 💛

It’s all false marketing…🫣

All bottles brands make claims that their bottles…

“Are anti colic”
“Reduce gas”
“Reduce spit up”
“Promote a smooth transition between breast and bottle”
“Prevent ni**le confusion”

….Truth is, this a tactic to get you to buy 💸💸💸

First ➡️no bottle will ever be ‘exactly’ like the breast. But there are 2 main factors we want to consider when choosing bottles ⤵️

🍼A ni**le that has a gradual, narrow slope. This will encourage a deeper latch, as they should at the breast taking in your ni**le and breast tissue.

🍼A slow flow rate, we want babies to take slow, paced feedings and actively draw out the milk as they should at the breast.

⬆️ I would recommend this for both breastfed and exclusively bottle-feed babies because we ultimately want to encourage babies to mimic what’s happening at the breast as closely as possible.

Second ➡️colic, gas, and spit up are symptoms that usually point to underlying challenges that a bottle alone can’t fix…Yet, parents are led to believe that they can buy and rely on X bottle 🤦🏽‍♀️ when we really should be trying to address the root cause of your baby’s discomfort.

If you’re struggling with bottle feeding and your baby is colicky or uncomfortable, I would love to help!
