We were delighted to welcome our preschool friends from Kidstretch Preschool in Falls Church back to Vinson Hall’s campus for another intergenerational playdate. Last month, 9 preschoolers from Kidstretch, as well as a few of their teachers, joined Vinson Hall residents for a fun hour of play, including activities such as a guided drum circle, sing-along, parachute play, and an indoor snowball fight! Lots of smiles were shared, and you could hear laughter from down the hall. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Each year an army of resident volunteers decorates the Vinson Hall campus for the holidays, transforming our campus into a winter wonderland of trees, lights, ornaments and bows! After the holidays, when everything is packed away, we get together one more time to thank them all for a job well done. On January 29, about 50 residents joined us the Kathy Martin Community Building Ballroom for drinks and snacks and to reminisce about our decorating adventure. Thanks again to all who made our campus sparkle!

Even the hubbub of campus-wide renovations can’t dampen the holiday spirit of Vinson Hall! An army of resident and staff volunteers proved the point on December 2, when Vinson Hall performed its annual holiday miracle – transforming the campus into a winter wonderland complete with trees, lights, garlands and bows. Thanks to all the hardworking volunteers who pitched in to make the VHRC campus sparkle!

Each year at the holidays, Vinson Hall partners with SHARE of McLean by creating gift bags for their senior clients. Residents donate lotions, soaps, toiletries – and this year, some special handmade items. The Needlers, Vinson Hall’s knitting and needlework group, donated 78 scarves they had made all year, and a staff member donated colorful washcloth squares that she had crocheted. In addition, our neighbor Chesterbrook Elementary School joined us in our Share drive, when students in their Philanthropy Club helped us fill the gift bags and create holiday greeting cards for Share’s clients. Thanks to our generous residents, as well as the students and families of Chesterbrook Elementary School, for helping to make the holidays brighter for our community neighbors!

Vinson Hall’s Arleigh Burke Pavilion has been recognized as a Best Nursing Home for 2026 by U.S. News & World Report, in a rating that was released on November 13. Arleigh Burke was rated as "High Performing" in both categories, short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. We're so proud of our talented team for making a difference in the lives of those we serve. Congratulations!!

What better way to celebrate Veterans Day with a rousing round of Corn Bag Toss? Vinson Hall residents gathered in our ballroom to participate in our single-elimination Corn Bag Toss Tournament, with 10 teams signing up to play. Clever names are part of the game here at Vinson Hall, and teams included The Corn Dawgs, Terrible Tossers, and Baggin’ & Braggin’. Congratulations to Pinewood Bros for taking home the win!

Vinson Hall wishes the U.S. Marine Corps a very happy 250th birthday today! At Vinson Hall, we celebrate our military roots and are proud of our residents and their families who faithfully served their country. We thank all our veterans for their service and we wish the U.S. Marine Corps a very happy 250th birthday!

On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and passed legislation creating what would become the United States Navy. At Vinson Hall we celebrate our military roots and are proud of our residents and their families who faithfully served their county. It is because of these strong individuals that we enjoy the peace and prosperity we have today. We thank all our veterans for their service and we wish the U.S. Navy a very happy 250th birthday!

What’s better than eating ice cream in August? Eating ice cream for a good cause! Vinson Hall held its Scoop for a Smile ice cream fundraiser on Friday, August 15, in the Vinson Hall lobby. Offering such nostalgic ice cream treats as banana splits and root beer floats, as well as different flavors of ice cream with a variety of sauces, syrups and toppings, the ice cream party was a big hit with residents and helped raised funds for our 2025 campaign to support the Alzheimer’s Association!
