How does DIM interact with MHT?
Diindolylmethane (DIM) is often recommended by integrative health practitioners to support hormone balance in postmenopausal women. It’s sometimes taken alongside menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) to promote healthy estrogen metabolism.
However, new research suggests there may be more to the story. A recent peer-reviewed study published in Menopause found that while DIM generally supports beneficial estrogen metabolism, women using an estradiol (E2) patch who also took DIM had lower E2 levels, potentially reducing the benefits of their E2 therapy.
This is the first published study to examine DIM’s impact on estrogen metabolism in postmenopausal women using MHT, made possible through DUTCH testing.
As always, it’s important to discuss supplement use with your healthcare provider to ensure the best possible outcomes for your hormone health.
