Are you feeling the chill in the air? ❄️
What's your chilly weather ritual around this time each year? At my house, the first snow of the season was always scrambling for gloves, boots, and wondering if last year's gloves had been mysteriously eaten by the house.
Now it means something better: *First Snow Pie*
A few years ago, my family got hooked on old Food Network holiday baking episodes (nostalgia + chaos = pure enjoyment). One contestant, Susan Steffan, shared her tradition: every year, on the first snowfall, she made a cherry pie for her kids to enjoy after school.
She called it “First Snow Pie.”
Instant magic.
We didn’t need another tradition.
But we instantly knew we wanted that one.
So we made it our own — whole food, plant-based, no eggs, no dairy, just real ingredients and warm memories. Now, when I feel the weather start to turn, I stock up on frozen cherries and cranberries, and do a mental pantry check whenever the weather forecast looks suspicious.
Here’s what this tradition reminds me:
❄️ We don’t have to wait for a holiday to make something special
❄️ Warm memories don’t require complicated plans
❄️ The rituals we create today become the stories our family tells later
The weather is turning.
Don’t get caught by surprise — gather your cherries and cranberries, grab your crust ingredients, and look forward to that first snow!
Find simple, cozy ways to make warm memories with the people you love. How can you make this tradition your own? Permission to make your own tradition: granted. ❄️🥧
Perfection is optional.
Pie is not 😜
My whole-food, plant-based version is in the comments. Google "first snow pie" for the original by Susan Steffan on Food Network!
