The liver plays a vital role in the health of your body. Our choices throughout the day can either support our liver, or make it harder for it to do it’s job. One simple way to help our liver out is to allow more time between meals and snacks. The simple act of pauses between meals gives the liver a chance to properly break down nutrients and send them to where they need to go. It also encourages proper waste removal and elimination. Eating too frequently interrupts this process and can lead to poor digestion, poor nutrient assimilation, and poor metabolic conditions.

If you are a snacker, start small! Add twenty to thirty minutes between your normal snacks, and add time as you go. Ideally, your body needs a minimum of two hours between food intake. If you can stretch that to three to five hours between meals, even better!

If you are interested in personal nutrition, one of the best tools for getting to know your needs is keeping a food journal. A food journal is a great way to learn your choices, behaviors, patterns and even triggers. When we write things down, we are forced to see our choices and how they may affect us, for good or bad.
Food journaling offers many benefits and can be very helpful for those of us who are ready to dive in and see change in our dietary life. Encourage mindfulness, awareness, and success with personal goals with a food journal!

The New Moon energy aligns our hearts and our intentions and can offer us a powerful opportunity to welcome change into our lives. Virgo is a practical sign that encourages order and structure. Now is a good time to get focused on the details, because it’s those details that can help us find our path.

You may feel a push to really focus on your goals, and that’s great! Be mindful how your intentions and plans may affect those around you. Patience may be short right now, and the mind may be scattered with a lot of ideas in a lot of different directions! Open mindedness is your friend right now! Be open to these ideas and see where they take you!

Two things Virgo loves? Order and tidiness! We can celebrate this New Moon by giving order to our thoughts and mapping out a plan to see our intentions through. Don’t worry about it being perfect, just allow it to be a plan that begins your journey for the next 30 days.

Once you have your plan in place, you can welcome the energy by clearing space. Have you ever heard the phrase physical clutter is mental clutter? Virgo loves to have a clean space in order to act, so set aside some dedicated time to go through your closet, your room, your workspace, or wherever you decide to clean out and make room! Let go of things you don’t need, haven’t used, or forgot about. As you clear your physical space, you will feel your mental space open up too.

Happy New Moon in Virgo!

Potassium is an essential mineral that our body needs each and every day. Lucky for us, potassium is available in a wide variety of natural foods, and getting enough each day may be easier than you think!

Why do you need potassium? Potassium plays a role in mineral and fluid balance in our body, helping to regulate calcium and sodium. It is responsible for fluid levels inside the cell, while sodium is responsible for fluid levels outside our cells. When we have sufficient potassium, our cells and nerves function better, and communicate better with our bodies!

Symptoms of low potassium?
*Muscle cramps or spasms
*Heart palpitations
*Constipation
*Fatigue
*Tingling or numbness

Thankfully Mother Nature has us covered! Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, animal and fish proteins, dairy, and legumes can supply plenty of potassium for our daily needs. We do need this daily, so make sure you include some of these healthy and delicious potassium rich foods regularly!

Journaling for self care is a wonderful way to restore balance and peace in your day. Writing can be very therapeutic as it gives your thoughts and emotions a physical place to go. Moving them from your inner world to the outer world allows them to either grow and manifest into our intentions, or to dissolve and disappear with their release.

You don’t need to be a writer to journal. If you have a pen and paper, you have everything you need. Journaling in a diary, keeping a log of events, or tracking mood and changes with a rating scale are all great options. Bullet journaling is a fun option for those of us who enjoy the artistic view! And if all of that sounds overwhelming, grab a sticky note and just jot ideas and thoughts down!

Many of my clients come to me with concerns about sodium intake in the diet. Fortunately, reducing sodium is easier and more natural than you may think! First off, sodium is an essential part of the diet and plays a role in digestion and is good for the microbiome, muscle health, and brain health as well. The goal is NOT to eliminate sodium in the diet, but find ways to reduce it naturally.

Here are five simple ways to reduce sodium intake naturally! Let me know your favorite ways to watch your sodium- share in the comments below!

Music is a wonderful thing. It has the power to energize us, empower us, emotionalize us. For many, the simple act of turning on a song is a way for us to truly feel, or express ourselves. You know what I mean- the song that comes on and you can’t help but dance, or when you are driving cross town and have to blare your favorite song and sing along! Or maybe you are the type to enjoy classical music during dinner or times of focus and study. Whatever you prefer, music is powerful. Music is mindfulness.

So the next time you are looking to practice a little self love, turn the radio on and let the melody move you to where you need to go. Soft, hard, quiet, loud, gentle or intense… music speaks to the soul.
