It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Cindy Oien, who dedicated over 20 years of faithful service to Nelson County Health System. She truly was a “gem”.
For more than two decades, Cindy was not only a valued team member but also a cornerstone of our community. Her commitment, integrity, and unwavering dedication helped shape who we are today. Through challenges and successes alike, Cindy consistently demonstrated professionalism, kindness, and a genuine passion for our mission.
Cindy wore many hats at NCHS. She was a dedicated Social Service Designee for our Care Center from 2004 to 2022. She always held her residents as her highest priority and became a close friend to many of the residents that she served and their families.
She also took on the role of Activities Director and worked in that role until 2025. She would go out of her way to make sure residents had everything they needed. She loved to take them out in the Activity Party Van to see Christmas lights, go out for ice cream, or to see a show. Cindy was so proud when the Dakota Prairie Elementary School received the honor of being North Dakota Long Term Care Young Volunteers of the Year. She had such pride in the relationship between the children and residents.
Cindy had a true passion and gift for working along side of those dealing with dementia. She did everything she could to ensure they were living their best possible life. In the last couple of years, she became certified in Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care. This included lot of training for not only our staff here at NCHS, but also for staff training and education throughout facilities in North Dakota.
Beyond her accomplishments, we will remember Cindy for her warmth, wisdom and the positive impact she had on everyone, fortunate enough to work alongside her and know her.
Nelson County Health System extends our heartfelt condolences to Cindy’s family and loved ones.
While we mourn this loss, we also celebrate a remarkable legacy that will continue to inspire us for years to come.
