As the weather cools, itโs tempting to stay cozy on the couch โ but movement is medicine! ๐ช Reduced activity can lead to stiffness, muscle weakness, and decreased balance, which may increase fall risk. Thatโs why even short bouts of exercise throughout the day are so important, especially for older adults or those recovering from injury.
Try these simple indoor moves:
๐ March in place during TV commercials to boost circulation and leg strength
๐ช Stand up every 30โ60 minutes to maintain core activation and joint mobility
๐ฏ Stretch or do light balance exercises in a clear, safe area to improve stability and coordination
*Use a sturdy chair, kitchen sink, or walker for hand support, if needed, to be safe!
Even 5โ10 minutes a few times a day can make a difference in strength, flexibility, and confidence in moving around your home.
And, If you don't mind the cold, bundle up & head out for a 15-30 min brisk walk!
