Blackheads vs. Sebaceous filaments! (SWIPE)

What are blackheads?

Blackheads (aka open comedones) are clogged pores.

Made of oil + dead skin cells + bacteria
Oxidizes and turns dark when exposed to air
Can become inflamed or turn into inflammatory acne

Think: a blockage that shouldn’t be there

Key signs:

Dark, black or brown
Slightly raised texture
Irregular, scattered placement

What are sebaceous filaments?

Sebaceous filaments are completely normal and part of your skin’s function.

Description:

They line the inside of your pores
Help move oil (sebum) to the surface
Usually light gray, tan, or slightly darker
Commonly seen on the nose
Come back quickly after extractions
