If you haven't already heard, history was made yesterday and the running world will never be the same!

Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe became the first person in history to run a legal marathon in under two hours, crossing the finish line at the 2026 London Marathon in an unbelievable 1:59:30. 🤯

To put that into perspective:
He shattered the previous world record by a full 65 seconds

He averaged under 4 minutes and 34 seconds per mile for 26.2 miles

His second half was actually FASTER than his first!

Watching feats like this is a great reminder of what the human body is capable of, and how much our feet carry us through every single step of the journey.

Not all insoles are created equal!

You've probably seen cushioned insoles at the pharmacy or running store. They can feel great right out of the package, but there's a big difference between store-bought and custom orthotics prescribed by a podiatrist.

Store-bought insoles are made for the average foot. They provide basic cushioning but don't address the root cause of pain and wear down quickly.

Custom orthotics are made from a mold of YOUR specific foot. They correct your unique gait and mechanics, treat the underlying cause of pain, and are built to last.

For runners, or anyone, dealing with recurring heel pain, arch pain, shin splints, or knee issues, custom orthotics can be a total game changer!

Curious if custom orthotics are right for you? Call Southern Oregon Foot & Ankle at 541-776-3338 to schedule an appointment.. Your feet will thank you!

Q:Will plantar fasciitis go away on its own?

A:Sometimes, but only with rest. Continuing to
run on it almost always makes it worse and
harder to treat.

This can be hard to hear when you aren't someone who wants to slow down, but sometimes rest is the best medicine for your feet!

If you have been struggling with foot pain, make sure to call Southern Oregon Foot and Ankle so we can get you back to doing what you love!

Want to run more without getting hurt? Follow the 10% rule.

One of the most common reasons runners end up in our office is beacause they are doing too much, too soon.

Whether you're training for your first 5K or building up to a marathon, increasing your mileage too quickly puts serious stress on your feet, ankles, and joints.

The 10% rule is simple:
👉 Never increase your total weekly mileage by more than 10% from one week to the next.

It might feel slow, but this approach gives your bones, tendons, and muscles time to adapt, which dramatically reduces your risk of stress fractures, plantar fasciitis, and tendinitis.

Other tips to run smarter:
✔️ Take at least one full rest day per week
✔️ Rotate between two pairs of running shoes
✔️ Cross-train to reduce repetitive impact

Pain during or after your runs is never something to ignore. Call Southern Oregon Foot & Ankle at
541-776-3338 to schedule an appointment — we'll help you stay on track and injury-free.

That nagging heel pain after your morning run? It's not something to push through.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common running injuries we see, and one of the most misunderstood.

It's an inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, and if left untreated, it can go from a minor annoyance to a serious problem that keeps you off your feet entirely.
Common signs include:

✔️ Sharp pain with your first steps in the morning
✔️ Heel pain after long periods of sitting
✔️ Aching that worsens after — not during — a run

The good news? It's very treatable when caught early.

Don't wait it out. Call Southern Oregon Foot & Ankle at 541-776-3338 to schedule an appointment and get back to running pain-free.

Your running shoes might be doing more harm than good! Here's how to tell it's time for a new pair:

1️⃣ The heel or sole is visibly worn down

2️⃣ You've logged 300–500+ miles on them

3️⃣ The cushioning feels flat or hard

4️⃣ The upper is breaking down or misshapen

5️⃣ You're developing new aches, pains, or blisters

Your shoes are your first line of defense against running injuries. When they go, your feet, knees, and back feel it.

If you're already noticing foot pain, even with new shoes, it may be time for more than just new shoes.

Call us at 541-776-3338 to schedule an appointment with Southern Oregon Foot & Ankle.

We'll get you back on the road and feeling your best!

Sports Medicine in Podiatry: What's the Link?

Did you know that your feet are the foundation of your entire body, especially when it comes to sports?

In sports medicine, podiatry plays a crucial role in keeping athletes on their feet and performing at their best!

From preventing injuries to aiding in recovery, podiatrists specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. Whether you're a professional athlete or just love to stay active, your podiatrist is an essential part of your fitness team!

Here’s how podiatry and sports medicine work together:

✨ Injury Prevention: Custom orthotics, footwear advice, and stretching techniques tailored to your sport can help prevent common injuries like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, or shin splints.
✨ Injury Recovery: After an injury, podiatrists offer rehabilitation treatments to help you recover faster and get back in the game.
✨ Optimized Performance: By treating structural issues and aligning the feet and ankles properly, podiatrists help boost your athletic performance and comfort.

Your feet take a beating during sports, but with the right care, they can keep you moving strong!
