Front row seats to incredible talent! 🎭 Our recent play reading of "Over the River and Through the Woods," directed by fellow resident and professional actor Eric Poppick, truly showcased the talent within our community. With two full-house readings, the performances were engaging, entertaining, and an absolute hit from start to finish. Bravo!

Spring was in full bloom at our Spring Gala! 🌷 Dressed in our finest, we enjoyed delicious food, great company, and plenty of fun—whether dancing to Band Du Pays Swing, listening to the Dan Fellman Trio, or discovering a hidden speakeasy (password: “Velvet After Dark”). What a wonderful way to welcome the season!

🧵 Meet our Quilting Group! While their gatherings may seem like simple sewing sessions, the impact they create is anything but small. What began as a resident club for neighbors to come together and quilt has grown into one of our most cherished community traditions. Alongside many other generous groups in our community, they craft hundreds of handmade items for organizations like Toys for Tots—over 200 bundles last year alone—as well as Quilts of Valor for veterans, pediatric hospital units, Meals on Wheels, and many other local organizations. Through quilting and community spirit, this group proves that a little thread can go a long way!💙

Whether we’re creating in the art studio, working on projects in the woodshop, enjoying a friendly game of billiards, or taking part in any of the many other activities around campus, there’s always something fun happening around our community. 🎨🔨🎱

We had a wonderful time touring Bear Creek! 🌿 Our visit gave us a closer look at the restoration work happening after the Almeda Fire, as well as ongoing efforts to reduce erosion, improve water quality, and strengthen the creek’s ecosystem. While walking along the creek and bike path, we noticed some of the recent improvements and even spotted a mink and a young muskrat! 🐾 It was fascinating to get a behind-the-scenes look at all the work going into caring for this important community resource.

💕 Happy Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air, and today we're sharing another resident love story—one that began with a yellow scarf, a bold first impression, and an unexpected conversation.

Meet Gary and Meryl.

“One summer in the mid-1970s, I volunteered for a political campaign in Honolulu, helping at a fundraiser by greeting guests and collecting information at the door. As the event was wrapping up, a woman walked up wearing a yellow scarf, bright red lipstick, and more rings than I could count. When I asked for her information, she looked at me and said, ‘I don’t need to fill out one of those.’ I was stunned—and, to be honest, a little annoyed.

A short while later, she came back out and asked, ‘Don’t I know you from somewhere?’ Without missing a beat, I replied, ‘Yes—you do. I’m the man of your dreams.’ She shot back, ‘More like the man of my nightmares,’ and walked away. The next day, I returned to the campaign office—and there she was again, this time sitting at a desk. Turns out she was the newly hired volunteer coordinator… and my boss. That boss is still Meryl today—47 years later—as my wife, best friend, and the mother of our two children.”
