At ColumbiaCare, we believe it's important to share client stories as a way to celebrate the important work happening at each of our programs.
One individual in residential treatment recently received approval from the PSRB to “step down” to independent living. While residing at our facility, the resident went back to school and earned a Trade Workers Certificate, they applied for apprenticeships and planned ahead for a meaningful career where they could support themselves.
Over the course of time, the resident expressed how they learned to set boundaries with family and friends, further refined their coping skills, developed personal interests, and they were very thoughtful about the need for community support when stepping down to independent living and the void they would have without staff support. These are just a few of the successes and positive milestones this resident achieved. The individual found an apartment they liked locally and worked with the PSRB to secure the housing, and have now transitioned into independent living.

At the end of the Summer, we gathered staff and clients for a recreational camp event that highlighted connection, therapeutic strategies, and most importantly, fun! This multi-day event featured a myriad of activities where both staff and clients could bond and interact. This video highlights some of the activities and reactions from both our staff and clients.

At ColumbiaCare, we believe it's important to share client stories as a way to celebrate the important work happening at each of our programs.

A client presented with symptoms of low self-esteem, depression, and limited social support. With clinical support, the client began to identify areas for personal growth. She was accepted into a transitional housing program where she was able to secure employment, marking a significant step toward her functional independence.
The client developed effective coping strategies to manage symptoms of depression and anxiety. She began to view herself through a more compassionate lens and her ability to celebrate small victories and acknowledge progress played a central role in sustaining her motivation.

Throughout treatment, the client made significant gains in personal development. She reported enhanced self-awareness, emotional resilience, and a strong sense of autonomy. Socially, she began establishing healthy, supportive connections while maintaining clear boundaries and prioritizing self-care.

This client has since transitioned successfully into independent housing. Her graduation from services reflects both her internal growth and the successful application of therapeutic strategies in her daily life.

This month, Bay Apartments Celebrates 15 Years of changing people's lives!

Bay Apartments II offers 6-units of affordable, transitional Supportive Housing for individuals (and their families) who are living with a mental illness and can be successful in their housing with minimal supports and community services. ColumbiaCare provides on-site case management and partners with Coos Health & Wellness for the provision of support services as needed. The intention of Supportive Housing is to help individuals get back into the regular commercial housing market by providing a transition from houselessness to independent living. For many individuals, stepping down into this level of care is a wonderful achievement and evidence of their hard work and commitment to recovery.
