Power In Your Hands

Power In Your Hands Healing Through Talk and Touch - Experience the Wisdom of Your Body I also work with couples and larger relational and family groups (though not children).

I'm a somatic therapist, which means I use a combination of talk, touch, and gentle movement to help clients integrate body, mind, emotions and spirit. In these COVID times, I am seeing clients remotely, through Zoom, and helping them key in to their own bodies and breath as we talk through their issues and concerns. I work with adult clients from all walks of life, but I particularly find joy in helping folks who live outside the gender, sexual, and relationship binaries that mainstream society imposes. In an in-person session involving touch, clients lie on a massage table, fully clothed, while I use gentle touch and invite movement in the body. At the same time, we engage in dialogue about the client's experiences of their body, which may manifest as anything from bodily sensations, to images, to emotions, to life stories. Through compassionate listening, establishment of safety and boundaries, and gentle guidance, I can help clients to release trauma, ease physical and emotional pain, express their own authentic voice, and move with greater freedom in their bodies and their lives.

A more personal post for a Sunday. I've legally gone back to my "maiden" name, many-years post-divorce. I talk here about my shifting relationship to names, the intense legal process (and expense) of changing them, and thoughts on how this must impact people less privileged than myself, particularly trans people.

In which I examine my various axes of privilege in the face of intense government bureaucracy

Telling stories is one of the ways we naturally make sense of difficult experiences. But what happens when that process is interrupted by abusive, neglectful, or controlling people? As always, if you find this helpful, please share it and/or subscribe.

Talk of repetition compulsion, e.g. why do some people keep dating abusive a-holes over and over, what do traumatized people's bodies learn about love and care, and how do we begin to heal? As always, if you like this or it's useful to you, please pass it on and/or subscribe. Thanks.
