People often ask me what happens during a Reiki session. It's pretty simple.

You get to lie down on a comfy table in a quiet, low-lit room and rest your body.
There’s no pressure to talk, process, or do anything.

I use light touch (or no touch), and the session is mostly quiet.

My role is to create a safe space for your body to do what it already knows how to do.

I’m listening — to your body, your energy, what’s shifting and what’s not.

I’m not in charge of the session. I’m part of it.

People often feel their breath slow, their body soften, and their mind settle. And that's where the healing begins.

It’s not about forcing change.

It’s about allowing it.

There’s a difference between fitting in and belonging. 💃

Fitting in asks you to adjust.
To edit yourself.
To become what’s expected.

Belonging doesn’t require that.
Belonging is being part of something AS YOU ARE.

And there’s a kind of exhale that happens in the body when you don’t have to perform to be accepted.

That kind of connection matters more than we realize. And it can literally save your life

I did my first Reiki session last weekend and it felt so good to be back in my space! I'm so gratefull that my client asked, even though I wasn't planning on starting until a few days later. It felt like a yes, but I was also afraid that I wasn't going to be able to give her as much as I normally offer.

As I learn to remember to trust what my body is saying and ignore my tired little mind, it becomes clear that I am building trust with myself and that, friends, feels huge. To trust my body?? What?? It feels so reckless 😅 But it is clearly what works. It has the ability to listen to the Divine and guide me, if only I am willing to honor what it needs and wants.

I’m starting slow, but it's official: my books are open again!

“Holding space” gets said a lot. But what does it actually mean?

It doesn’t mean fixing.
It doesn’t mean advising.
It doesn’t mean rescuing.

It means regulated presence.
It means witnessing and honoring what’s unfolding without trying to control it.
It means holding deep respect for someone’s journey — even when it’s messy, uncertain, or slow.

Sometimes it’s challenging, but it’s important.

True support isn’t about taking over.

It’s about staying steady.

The older I get, the more I realize healing isn’t about doing more. It’s about trusting yourself sooner.

Trusting when you’re tired.
Trusting when something feels off.
Trusting when you’re ready.
Trusting when you’re not.

Self-trust is quieter than confidence.

But it’s steadier.

Relaxation and regulation are not the same thing.

You can feel relaxed for a moment — in a bath, on vacation, during a massage.

Regulation is deeper.

It’s when your nervous system can move between activation and calm without getting stuck.

Reiki, breathwork, and consistently checking in with your body don’t just create relaxation. They help build regulation.

And regulation changes how you live your life.

You can only listen.

And listening, it turns out, is a practice.

Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting still. It can be movement.

Try this:

Stand near a wall so you can lightly touch it for balance.
Inhale slowly. Exhale slowly.

Lift one foot off the floor, even if it's just an inch.

Focus on balancing. Notice what your body does. If it feels good, let your arms move gently. Let it be small and steady.

Then return your hand to the wall.
Close your eyes.
See if you can stay balanced for a few breaths.

Notice how many little muscles it takes to balance. Notice how it takes even more muscle engagement when you add in your arms. And closing your eyes will engage your vestibular system which brings your focus even more into your body.

Breathe. Feel. Then switch feet.

And then congratulate yourself. You just meditated and did a balancing and grounding practice at the same time!
Look at you, making magic!

Tomorrow I am having surgery and will be taking a short break to recover.

It's significant, but I am trusting that everything is in place and that I am in good hands. In the weeks afteward, I will be tending to my body the way I ask my clients to tend to theirs.

I’ll be focusing on allowing my body to rest , but I always love to hear from family, friends and clients. I know I will be SO ready to get back the this work I love so much!

We talk a lot about “taking a deep breath.” But breath isn’t just about oxygen.

Oxygen fuels your cells. Carbon dioxide helps release that oxygen into your tissues. Without enough carbon dioxide in the system, oxygen can’t be used efficiently — even if you’re breathing more of it.

That’s why slow, steady breathing matters.
It’s not about all about the inhales. The exhale matters too. It’s about balance.

If you want to try a simple reset, try this:

Inhale for 5.
Hold for 5.
Exhale for 7.

Slow. Steady. Controlled.

That longer exhale gives your body time to regulate and allows carbon dioxide to help oxygen do its job.

Do this 3 times.

And notice what shifts.

I’ve been thinking about what it means to pause on purpose.

Not because you are burned out and have no choice. Not because you’ve failed or because something forced you to stop. But because your body needs care.

In our culture, it is easy to be convinced that rest isn’t weakness. It becomes part of the narrative. Just do it. Just keep swimming. Dig deeper. And sometimes that mindset is required! But sometimes it's hooey. It is a crazy lie that we do not have the right to rest, that somehow resting makes us lazy. What a strange and terrible message to give to our bodies, minds and souls.

How empowering to remember that rest is maintenance! It is an act of love for ourselves and for others. It is creating an opportunity to listen to the wisdom your body carries.

Rest doesn't have to wait until we are burnt out and have no choice.
