Stress and anxiety are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct differences.
Stress is a response to an external cause, such as a tight deadline at work or a challenging situation, and typically subsides once the situation is resolved. It can be positive, pushing individuals to meet goals or overcome obstacles.
Anxiety, on the other hand, is an internal reaction often characterized by persistent, excessive worry that doesn't necessarily have a specific trigger. While stress can lead to anxiety, anxiety is a broader mental health condition that can affect daily functioning even in the absence of stressors.
There are many ways to help manage stress like exercise, avoiding excessive caffeine and getting enough sleep. If you are finding that your worries are constant, with no trigger or relief, consider seeking treatment.
