❄️ Hello, Winter! ❄️

Today marks the first day of winter, and we’re ready to welcome the season of cozy blankets, warm laps, and extra purrs at The Cat Hospital Of Media 🐾

As the temperatures drop, remember that our feline friends feel the chill too—especially seniors and cats with medical needs. Winter is a great time to:
• Schedule wellness checkups
• Keep indoor cats active and stimulated
• Watch for changes in appetite, mobility, or behavior

We’re here all season long to help keep your cats healthy, comfortable, and thriving. From all of us (and all of our whiskered patients), we wish you a warm, peaceful start to winter. 💙🐱

Stay cozy—and give your cat an extra cuddle for us!

📣 Important Reminder: Rabies Vaccines Protect Your Pets and Your Family 🐱💉

Delaware County is currently seeing a high incidence of rabies reported in wildlife and domestic animals — including raccoons, bats, skunks, foxes, and stray cats — and that means our community is at higher risk right now.

Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system of mammals and is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. It’s usually transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal.

🐾 Why vaccinating your cat matters:
• The rabies vaccine is highly effective at preventing the disease.
• Pennsylvania law requires that all cats and dogs be vaccinated against rabies.
• Vaccinated pets act as a buffer between wildlife reservoirs of rabies and your family.
• Unvaccinated pets exposed to rabies may face long quarantines or even euthanasia.

❤️ Protect your pet and your loved ones:
✔ Make sure your cat’s rabies vaccine is current.
✔ If your pet is bitten or scratched by a wild animal, contact your vet or local health department immediately.
✔ All animal bites should be reported to the Delaware County Health Department.

Rabies can be prevented, but once symptoms start — in humans or animals — there is no cure. Let’s keep our pets and our community safe! 💪🐾

🐾 We’re proud to be one of the few. 🐾

Cat hospitals are rare—and AAHA-accredited cat-only hospitals are even rarer. We’re honored to share that The Cat Hospital of Media is one of only 46 AAHA-accredited cat-only practices in the entire U.S. 💙

AAHA accreditation means we voluntarily meet the highest standards in veterinary medicine, from patient care and safety to cleanliness, technology, and team training. It’s a commitment we take seriously—because your cats deserve nothing less than exceptional care.

✨ And the bonus? We’re cat-only.
That means a calmer, quieter environment designed entirely around the comfort, health, and well-being of our feline patients—no barking dogs, no added stress, just focused, compassionate feline care.

Thank you for trusting us with your cats. We’re proud to be rare, accredited, and 100% devoted to cats. 🐱💫

🎉 Welcome to the Team, Dr. Ortiz! 🎉

Cat Hospital of Media is so excited to welcome Dr. Ortiz to our team! He’ll officially be starting with us this Monday, December 8th, and will likely begin taking appointments in mid-December. We can’t wait for our clients and their feline family members to meet him — he’s going to be a wonderful addition to our hospital.

Here’s a little more about Dr. Ortiz:

📍 Local Roots
Dr. Ortiz was born in Media and raised in Kennett Square, PA. Growing up, he helped his parents with their mushroom business—his father immigrated from Mexico—and it was during these early years that his love for animals truly began. Raising backyard chickens and ducks sparked his lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian, a dream his parents wholeheartedly supported.

🎓 Education & Early Experience
A first-generation college student, Dr. Ortiz earned his BS in Animal and Food Science from the University of Delaware. He got his start in veterinary care through wild bird rescue and rehabilitation with Tri-State Bird Rescue in Newark, DE, before heading to the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his DVM.

🐾 Veterinary Career & Feline Focus
Dr. Ortiz began his career as a general practitioner with Heart + Paw, where he developed strong interests in internal medicine, dermatology, and—of course—felines. Surrounded by “cat ladies” and “cat whisperers,” he honed his skills in feline care and ultimately felt called to work exclusively with cats. We’re thrilled he’s bringing that expertise to our hospital!

🎸 Life Outside the Clinic
When he’s not caring for cats, Dr. Ortiz enjoys spending time with his fiancée, Beth, and their two dogs, Archer and Maui. He’s also active in the Philly music scene—performing, mixing, and recording with his band—and loves sewing and attending concerts.

Please join us in giving Dr. Ortiz a warm welcome! 💙🐱
We know our cat-loving community will adore him as much as we do.

We treat cats big and small!

Meet Charlie, Dee, and Dennis. They came in with their mom, Cece, for a checkup and medication.

In order to accurately weigh the kittens, we used a gram scale… and a very official saltine box.
