Changing the trajectory of eye health around the world
October 11, 2018 is World Sight Day, and at Johnson & Johnson Vision we’re doing our part to spotlight sight and raise awareness of the global issue of avoidable blindness and visual impairment. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 285 million people around the world face impaired vision and 80 percent of those cases are preventable with early diagnosis and treatment.
As Johnson & Johnson Vision is committed to changing the trajectory of eye health around the world, World Sight Day is one of the most relevant days of the year for us.
That’s why we have launched a worldwide campaign to . During the week of World Sight Day (October 8-12), the company is shining a spotlight in the sky from its vision headquarters in both Florida and California as a new bold way to attract attention to eye health. We hope you will join us in honoring the day and supporting the broader global cause.
Johnson & Johnson will donate one dollar for every photo posted through the Donate a Photo app to one of its two global signature initiatives that preserve and restore sight. While photos can be of almost anything, Johnson & Johnson Vision is encouraging participants to take a photo, share it on social media and tag it with .
The two signature sight-saving initiatives and activities specific to the program are:
Lions Clubs International Foundation's Sight for Kids
will provide 100,000 children with eye health education and access to vision screenings. Sight for Kids has provided more than 26 million children around the world with eye health education and services since 2002.
Himalayan Cataract Project
will provide 1,000 people with a 10-minute life changing cataract surgery. As a result of the Himalayan Cataract Project’s efforts, over 8,875,905 people have been screened and treated, including surgery for over 740,000 people from 17 countries.
You can post up to one photo per day using the app. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends on December 31, 2018. Users without smart phones can also demonstrate their commitment to eye health by posting their photos and commenting using on Facebook and Twitter.
The funds donated via Donate a Photo are only a small part of larger commitments Johnson & Johnson has made to these organizations. Through partnerships and contributions to nonprofit organizations, Johnson & Johnson Vision is committed to promoting eye health and education to the global community.
