Who else gets stuck in the mom guilt cycle? 🙋‍♀️

You're not alone - and you don't have to do it all. In fact, it's just not possible to do everything society says that moms should do.

✋ Stop the mom guilt. You're a great parent and perfectly enough, just as you are.

Repost from The Motherhood Center of New York

"It’s not the same for all new moms. Birth and pregnancy, health complications, mental health struggles and hormones can cause havoc on our mind and body. It can leave us feeling battered and bruised both inside and out. Mama, you have weathered the storm, stood in the fire and survived. You can still be the mother you want to be. Help is always there, make sure you reach out if you need. You still have just as much love in your heart.💖"

Melissa Munro Boyd Mindful Stories for Kids Raising World Children

02/15/2022

What if we held the mother first? What if we held her so much that she could breathe out those worries - the ones wrapping those tight circles in her mind?
What if we asked her, how are you really doing?
And what if we held space for the answer - whatever it might be. What if we listened? What if we gifted her with our own stories; our own truths? What if she listened? What if we told her we knew it was hard because we've walked her walk? What if we weren't so quick to forget? What if we told her that we get it and that in all of that hard, you are doing so very well? What if we did that before we held the baby? And what if, in all of that space, she felt ready for us to hold the baby - because she felt held herself?

You matter. 💓

The mental health of mothers matters so much. To the woman herself, to her baby, family and the world. Taking care of moms is caring for our society.

A resourced and supported mother has better outcomes for her baby, family and community. A woman who is struggling, under resourced, without access to care and alone is not the goal, but unfortunately all too common. We can do better.

Education, resources, perinatal care from the start and removing the stigma of mental health issues are what we need.

I always appreciated these Tupac lyrics, they apply here:
"And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we r**e our women, do we hate our women?...
Time to heal our women, be real to our women"

"Keep ya head up" AND get the help you deserve. 💜

P.S. most perinatal statistics are far worse for women of color

The fourth trimester isn't something new parents are often taught about upfront, but they should be. Too often, new moms are left to figure out how to heal—and how to take care of a new baby—alone.

New mother and medical student Korrine Sky was confronted with this gap in information and the overwhelming feeling of being unprepared after giving birth in March. Though her pregnancy went smoothly, she felt under-informed.
