Holiday parties are in full swing—but celebration doesn’t have to mean alcohol. We recently attended the Merry Mocktail Mix-Off held in Brunswick on Dec 4th. This event, hosted by the Medina County Health Department and Safe Communities, proved that festive drinks can be fun, flavorful, and completely alcohol-free!

Whether you’re hosting or attending, try a mocktail this season. It’s a great way to enjoy the cheer, stay safe, and support sober driving. Because the best memories come from connection—not cocktails.

Check out our featured recipe below and photos from the event!

Celebrate responsibly. Drive sober.

The holidays can be joyful, but they can also bring stress, grief, and pressure. Here are five ways to stay grounded this season:

• Breathe mindfully — slow, intentional breaths calm your body and mind.
• Set healthy boundaries — it’s okay to say no and protect your peace.
• Prioritize rest & self care — recharge with journaling, walks, or quiet time.
• Stay connected — reach out to friends, family, or community groups.
• Use grounding techniques — try the 5 4 3 2 1 method to return to the present.

Remember: you are not alone. Hope and support are here for you this holiday season.

The night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest drinking nights of the year. As we head into the holiday weekend, let’s take a moment to plan for safety.

• Plan your ride home — designated driver, rideshare, or staying overnight.
• Pace yourself — know your limits and check in with how you’re feeling.
• Stick together — friends look out for friends, and no one drives impaired.

A little planning goes a long way toward protecting the people we care about.
Here’s to a holiday weekend filled with gratitude, connection, and safe choices.

When we get overflowed with the news of social media, it can consume us. As we move into these last months of the year, it is important to remind ourselves that there is more to life than what we may see on our phones. Make it a goal to experience the beauty of life once a day!

Thanks to the GIVE Iat Medina High School for this thoughtful post! It's so important to disconnect from time to time.

Safely storing fi****ms and medications is one of the most effective ways to prevent su***de and protect loved ones. Talk with your family so everyone knows how to stay safe. At Home: Store fi****ms unloaded. Separate fi****ms from ammunition. Keep fi****ms locked in a safe, lockbox, or with cable locks. Keep fi****ms out of sight, especially in vehicles or public spaces.

Did you know that vehicles parked at homes are the #1 source of stolen fi****ms? Leaving guns unsecured in cars — even in your driveway — creates serious risk. Lock your car, remove fi****ms, and store them safely inside.

Need a gun cable lock? Free gun cable locks are available through the Medina County Coalition for Su***de Prevention and various partners. For more information, send an email to: Prevention@alternativepaths.org.

As the weather begins to get colder and it starts to get darker sooner, many people may experience seasonal depression. Some ways to help manage seasonal depression can be exercise, sleep, trying to find seasonal social activities, and in more severe circumstances looking into medication and seeking professional help. It's important to remember that you are not alone in this and if you or someone you know is struggling don't hesitate to reach out to Medina Co. Crisis & Behavioral Health Helpline at 330-725-9195.

Did you know the first World Kindness Day was held on November 13, 1998? World Kindness Day was established by the World Kindness Movement to promote kindness across nations and cultures. The intent was to highlight good deeds and encourage a culture of compassion and empathy. Looking for ways to participate and show kindness? Here are some ideas.

• Smile and greet people warmly, even those you don’t know.
• Create kindness jars filled with uplifting messages for family members.
• Write thank-you notes to someone who’s made a difference in your life.
• Donate food to a food pantry or gently used coats to a coat drive.
• Share positive stories or quotes on social media to inspire others.
• Pay it forward by covering someone’s coffee or meal.
• Leave uplifting notes in public places for strangers to find,

These actions may seem small, but they create a ripple effect that can brighten someone’s day—or even change a life. What will you do?
