Did you know that February is International Boost Self‑Esteem Month? Well, it is and there's still time - February isn't done yet! Consider this a reminder that how we talk to ourselves matters. Self-esteem isn’t about being perfect. It’s about recognizing your worth, being kind to yourself, and giving yourself permission to grow.
Here are a few ways to build healthier, stronger self-esteem:
💛 Practice self‑compassion. Speak to yourself the way you'd speak to someone you care about.
💛 Surround yourself with supportive people. Healthy, affirming relationships strengthen self-worth and decrease self-criticism.
💛 Limit comparisons. Comparison—especially on social media—creates unrealistic standards. Focus on your own progress instead of others.
💛 Ask for help when you need it. Reaching out to friends, family, or professionals is a strength—not a weakness.
Healthy self‑esteem develops over time, and with support, anyone can move toward it. If you've noticed that your self‑esteem has become so low that it is starting to impact your safety, daily functioning, or well‑being, that may be a sign to reach out for help. If you're not sure where to begin, call the Medina County Crisis line at 330-725-9195.
