When Jamison was teaching indoor cycling, she was the nicest version of herself: “warm, welcoming, and encouraging to the point of profound corniness, despite my usual caustic tendencies,” she writes. People that met in her class started dating; strangers went out for coffee. “These experiences have convinced me that group fitness classes are the best place to make friends as an adult,” she continues, “an idea supported by research that suggests that the glow of exercise’s feel-good chemicals has interpersonal benefits.”

Once, friendships were born in what the sociologist Ray Oldenburg called “third places”: physical spaces that aren’t a home or a workplace, don’t charge (much) for entry, and exist in large part to foster conversation. Group classes don’t quite fit in that definition—they can cost money, and their primary activities are “sweating, grunting, and skipping a few reps when the instructor isn’t looking,” Jamison writes. “But they fulfill many conditions that social-psychology research has repeatedly shown to help forge meaningful connections between strangers: proximity (being in the same place), ritual (at the same time, over and over), accumulation (for many hours), and shared experiences or interests (because you do and like the same things)”—a less awkward way to find people with similar interests than at work or at a party.

Even if you don’t find your next best friend at Zumba class, getting into a fitness habit might help you step out of your comfort zone and make more friends in other spaces.

“A room full of grown adults flailing, shouting, and running miles without ever going anywhere is a fundamentally ridiculous prospect,” Jamison continues. “Ridiculous things, however, play a crucial role in connecting with others: They make us laugh.”

Today’s Tip:
An easy way to cut down on calories is to pick a time ( say 6 pm) and stop eating.

Try eating a normal breakfast (try to reduce bready carbs if you can);
have a heathy lunch (1 pm ish);
Plan a light dinner between 5 and 6 PM and then shut down the kitchen. ⏲️🍗

 If you’re able to to do this, you’ve essentially given your body at least 12 hours to decrease blood sugar.

Of course, the benefits will be greater if the foods you select to eat during the day are healthy and your caloric intake is not over the top. 🥰

Your entire life is a series of habits .
Take some time and look to see how your day generally unfolds.
Which habits are healthy and which habits are not helping you achieve your goals.
Try changing one or creating a new healthy habit. Give it a couple of days or perhaps a week or so… and then tackle another.
In a matter of weeks, your life can change. It’s completely up to you. ❤️

Today’s Tip:
It’s not necessary to go overboard keeping track of calories. But, for some it can be helpful to get on a healthy track.
It’s also beneficial to have a working knowledge of how many calories are in the foods that you generally consume.
An idea is to keep a food diary for a couple days and google search how many calories are in the foods that you tend to eat. 🍳🥑 🍝
Once you see the calories in your favorite foods, it’s interesting to compare that to how many calories are expended doing your favorite activities

Today’s Tip:
When making food choices, aim for protein and fiber-rich foods.
Why?
They keep you full longer due to longer digestion time.
Simple carbs ( sugary foods, pastas, breads, etc) break down into glucose quickly.
( ✍️ FYI: complex carbs include fruits and vegetables)
Of course, there is more to this but let’s keep it simple…
⬇️ decrease simple carbs and
⬆️ UP the protein and complex carbs and fiber.
