🍭 Today we are sharing how you can use this classic board game to encourage your child's speech and language development and skills!

🍬Candy Land may seem like a simple game, but there are so many ways you can incorporate speech and language while playing!🍬

Get those detective hats on for this fun game of "who did it?" 🕵🏿🔎

See above ⬆ for how to work on speech and language skills while playing Outfoxed!

Other targets can include:
- Does Have / Does Not have
- Can you think of ways to help remember the clues to eliminate suspects?
- If your child is not reading yet that's OK! See if they can match the letters in the final suspect and the thief card!
- Think strategically when moving your detective hat around the board. Are there certain "paths" that are better than others?

📣 Calling all future veterinarians 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️! The Critter Clinic is a fan-favorite and such a versatile toy! Here are some other suggestions on how you can use this toy while encouraging speech and language skills:

🐱 Mix it up! Find other small toys or objects and hide them behind the doors (my daughter loves hiding her Paw Patrol characters).
🐶 Give clues for what is hiding behind each door. Can your child guess correctly?
🐰 Switch roles! Have your child describe what is behind each door. Can you guess correctly?
🐹 Retell: What did you find first? Next? Third? Last?
🦊 Imaginary play: Just because it is set up as a veterinary toy clinic doesn't mean you have to ONLY play pet doctor! Switch up the imaginary play schemes.

When a Barrier Task goes wrong(ish)…. 🤪

Today we used a Barrier Task to work on generalizing speech sounds in conversation, but Barrier Tasks are also great for language skills! When my buddy told me to draw a rainbow and then connect it to 3 more rainbows I did just that. Only my buddy meant to make a “rainbow-like shape.” 🌈🦖

When using a Barrier Task for language skills we can focus on:
- shapes
- sizes: how big should each part of the picture be
- location: top, bottom, middle, left, right, below, etc.
- colors
- describing other features
- analogies

Give it a try and see how it goes!
