The town of Meeker, Colorado was formed in 1883 and is named for Nathan Meeker, the United States Indian Agent who was killed along with 11 others by White River Ute Indians in the 1879 Meeker Massacre. Highland Cemetery, also known as Meeker Cemetery, is located about a half mile south of the town of Meeker. From Market Street (Rte 13), turn south on County Road 4 (aka 10th Street), cross the White River bridge, and on the hill, turn left into the cemetery. The Highland Cemetery office manages and maintains burial information for the cemetery and also for three additional rural cemeteries in Rio Blanco County, including:
