Your Bladder LOVES water & staying hydrated is one of the nicest things you can do for your urinary system (& body in general!)

This is especially true and important if you struggle with symptoms like p*eing too frequently, or if you get super strong urges/ have to rush to the bathroom to p*e.

It may seem that drinking MORE water would just make you have to p*e more or rush to the bathroom more right? Well the opposite is true!

When we aren’t properly hydrated our p*e gets super concentrated, which then irritates your bladder. When your urine is concentrated your bladder wants to get it OUT. So you will feel the urge to p*e more frequently and often more intensely.

Drinking more water helps dilute your p*e so it’s less concentrated, which makes it less agitating to your bladder.

So if you struggle with p*eing all of the time, or feel like you have to rush to the bathroom, 9/10 you likely need more plain jane water intake.

If this is you- gradually (& I MEAN GRADUALLY), increase your water intake throughout the day!

& if possible drink a little water before drinking or eating anything that is caffeinated, is carbonated, has alcohol, is citrus/tomato based, or is spicy. These are common things that make your p*e mega concentrated aka more irritating.

As always, if you struggle with p*eing too frequently, or strong urges, likely your pelvic floor needs some rehab. Pelvic floor therapists are here for you!

Remi Ruth Newton🤍

Our not so little love joined us fashionably late 9 days past her due date this Tuesday, 1/3, as a surprise chunker of 9lbs 4 oz.

We are over the moon & soaking in every minute.

More to come on my birth experience & pelvic floor deets, but wow- I am overwhelmed with gratitude & my new perspective for these incredible bodies of ours & every profession that plays a role in supporting this perinatal process. Truly angels on earth.

Thank you everyone for all of your love & support during this oh so special time🤍

Rythm turned 2🎉 -yesterday! lol

I am so grateful for the past two years 🤍

Being a one-person clinic & having my own practice has not been a piece of (bday) cake😉. I get to wear a lot of different hats, from therapist, to accountant, to front desk, & everything in between- & I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Doing so has allowed me to do what I love in the way I feel pelvic health should be offered, & I am so grateful for all who have trusted me with their care these past 2 years! Truly an honor to get to do this as my “work”.

Cheers to year 3 and learning to do it with a new little one!

Man oh Man- it’s so crazy that this time is already here- just 2 days shy of Rythm’s 2nd birthday! These preggo hormones have me all in my feels, & it is so bittersweet to be stepping away from my “business baby” for a little bit, but going to do my best and practice what I preach to my patients on the daily & prioritize this time.

The Rythm Clinic will be Temporarily Closed for Maternity Leave until Further Notice. We anticipate reopening around July 2023. ✨

You can find the latest updates here & on our website as it gets closer!

I am going to do my best to “disconnect” during leave, but will be checking email & my DM’s sporadically- just may take some extended time for my response. I so appreciate your understanding during this special time.

I will still do my best to continue to share & spread the good word of pelvic health while I am out. Comment below or message me if there is anything specific you want me to share more about! 👇🏼

Sending lots of love & wish you all a wonderful rest of the holiday season.✨

Sending so many thanks & gratitude to my patients, my family, my friends, & to every single person that has supported my small business these past 2 years.

From seeing me in the clinic to telling your friends/providers about my clinic or pelvic PT, to liking a post on social, or simply sending me a message- it all means more than you will ever know!

Supporting small businesses is one of the easiest ways you can support someone’s dreams, & I can’t thank you enough for supporting mine ✨

You read that right- your pelvic floor goes through quite the journey during pregnancy & birth. During a vaginal delivery, these muscles are stretched up to 3 x their original length. 🤯

But what is super cool about this fact is that this is totally normal & these muscles are SUPPOSED to do this!

However many individuals actually have too tight of pelvic floor muscles, especially in pregnancy, which makes these muscles more rigid.

Healthy pelvic floor muscles are nice and pliable, like a trampoline, & having too much tension here can actually increase your risk for tears & injuries during delivery.

This is one of the many reasons why working with a pelvic floor PT during pregnancy is super helpful. We help teach you how to properly prepare these muscles for delivery, how to reduce your risk of injury, & how to make sure they are ready to do their job when it comes time to meet your little one.

If you are currently pregnant, I highly recommend scheduling a few appointments with a pelvic floor therapist. It’s never too late! ✨

There’s Nothing more annoying than being sound asleep & having your bladder give you a nice ole message that you gotta p*e.

Waking up at night to go to the bathroom is something that many just say “i’ve always done it” or “I am used to it”, but for most ppl, this actually shouldn’t be happening.

If you are under the age of 65, & don’t have a certain medical condition, you heard me right- you should not be waking up to p*e in the middle of the night!

*Pregnancy is one exception to this rule. And if you are over 65, 0-1x a night is considered the norm.

It may not seem like a huge deal, but waking at night can be a sign of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.

Also, a consistent nights sleep is so vital to our overall health! If you’re waking to p*e, you are disrupting your sleep cycle, which can contribute to throwing off our hormones, an increase in fatigue, stress, & so much more.

Sure- reducing fluid or bladder irritant intake before bed can help, but often times if you have been struggling with this for quite some time, your pelvic floor is likely the culprit, & seeing a pelvic PT can be immensely helpful.

So if this is you, please reach out to your local pelvic therapist to start sleeping and feeling better. ✨✨

Are you experiencing symptoms like sensitivity, pain, discomfort, itching, or numbness around your cesarean scar? Maybe you get woozy or the heebs when you even think about or look at your scar? Do you avoid wearing jeans, tight clothing, or anything that will create contact over their scar? Maybe you feel there is a “shelf” that will not go away.

If so, please know that this is so very common, but shouldn’t be happening. Most individuals have no idea there is something you can do about it, & I am here to let you know that this is very very treatable.

A cesarean delivery is a major abdominal surgery, & just like almost every surgery, we need physical therapy afterwards. Us pelvic PT’s are the pros that specialize in treating these symptoms, & scar tissue in your abdomen can be linked to so many other symptoms including:

-Urinary Urgency, Frequency, Leaking
-Painful S*x
-Abdominal Pain
-GI issues
-Pelvic pain, Low back pain
& more.

I hear you- “Kat, I didn’t deliver vaginally, so I can’t have pelvic floor issues”.
I wish this were true but unfortunately this is a big myth. Just because you had a cesarean delivery does not mean your pelvic floor is “spared”.

More on this later, in another post, but just know the mere fact of growing a human puts a ton of strain and work on the pelvic floor. This is why myself (and all pelvic PT’s) feel so strongly that every single pregnant/ postpartum person should see a pelvic PT.

I should mention that this also applies for any abdominal surgery.

So if any of this resonates with you or someone you know, please seek out help & spread the word that there are people out there (like myself) that specialize in treating these symptoms, that are here to help. ✨

When asked “are you constipated” do you immediately think no because you go every day?

Well did you know we can actually p**p every day & still be constipated 🤯

Other signs that you are likely constipated include any of the following:

•Difficulty emptying or needing to strain
•Lumpy or Hard p**ps
•Feeling like you didn’t fully empty/ get it all out
•Needing extra help to empty (like pressing on abdomen/down there, using a finger to help empty)
•Feeling like there is a blockage or something in the way
•Hemorrhoids / fissures

Constipation is way more than just not going as frequently & is often missed. Constipation can also be linked to several other symptoms including bloating/ gas, urinary urgency/ frequency, pelvic pain & more.

Your pelvic floor muscles play a major role in going #2, so if you are dealing with any of the above, likely your pelvic floor is a piece of the problem. The good news is, pelvic floor therapy helps!

Happy p**ps = a happy pelvic floor.

Happy p**ps are:
•Going p**p anywhere from 3 x a day to 3 x a week (basically no more than 3 x a day and no less than 3 x a week)
•Soft, formed stools- think like a soft ripe banana
•Easy emptying with no straining, or excessive pushing
•Pain free

Dealing with some constipation? Give us a call, we’d love to help. ✨
