Every exercise in a three-week Intensive Physical Therapy session is chosen with intention, not just to build strength, but to build usable, functional movement. Chase proved he was up for the challenge! 💪
Here’s how his session came together 👇
🦸 Supermans - While laying prone on a table, he reached forward to grasp a ring and lifted his arms to place it onto a cone. This targeted trunk extension and shoulder strength, helping him activate the muscles needed for upright posture, head control, and stability in standing and walking.
🎯 Bag Toss - In tall kneeling on an unstable surface, he reached down toward the floor to grab and toss bags while maintaining his position. This challenged hip, glute, and core activation, dynamic balance, and controlled upper-extremity movement, all while learning to stay upright without collapsing forward.
🕷️ Spider Cage for Ball Kicks - Hooked into bungees in the Universal Exercise Unit, he practiced kicking a ball while working on single-leg stance. The bungees provided dynamic support, allowing him to safely challenge balance, weight shifting, and hip stability without removing the demand of the task.
🧠 Universal Exercise Unit for Hip Abduction - While laying on his back, one leg was suspended as he kicked outward against resistance. This isolated hip abduction strengthening, a key component for pelvic stability, balance, and efficient walking mechanics.
➡️ Side Stepping - We then applied that hip strength in a functional way through side stepping. Hands were placed at his hips to prevent rotation, reinforcing controlled alignment and stability needed for safe walking and transitions.
Intentional progression. Functional carryover. This is what intensive therapy is all about.
Fantastic work Chase! 🙌
