SATELLITE BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS RECEIVE LIFE SAVING AWARD

Three Satellite Beach Police officers received the Life Saving Award at the Satellite Beach City Council meeting last night. Sgt. Anthony Holland, Cpl. Philip Martinez, and Ofc. Matt Bennett administered life-saving CPR and AED shock while responding to an emergency 911 call. On June 7, 2022, a person on a balcony at the Majesty Palms condominiums observed a man collapse on the beach and called 911.

Within minutes, Cpl. Martinez, Ofc. Bennett, and Sgt. Anthony Holland arrived on scene.
Officer Bennett retrieved his department issued AED from his patrol car and everyone began making their way down to the beach.

The initial assessment indicated the man was not breathing and had no detectable pulse. Due to the tide coming in, Bennett and Holland relocated the man approximately fifteen feet further west, in order to safely perform CPR.

Officer Bennett immediately started the chest compressions as Sgt. Holland prepped the AED.
Corporal Martinez prepped the patient by removing his clothing for a quick and proper application of the AED pads to the patient's upper body. The AED pads were properly placed on the body by Sgt. Holland and Cpl. Martinez, while Ofc. Bennett continued with chest compressions.

During the course of these life saving measures, the patient was shocked twice and a pulse was ultimately regained.

The Satellite Beach Fire Department then arrived on scene and took over life saving measures. The man was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was admitted. After 8 days, the man was released from the hospital and spent Father's Day with his wife and children.

There are many heroes in this life saving incident:
💗 The person on the balcony who immediately called 911.
💗 The incredible Satellite Beach Dispatchers who coordinated the response.
💗 Ofc. Bennett, Cpl. Martinez, and Sgt. Holland who all seamlessly worked as a team to administer CPR and AED.
💗 The Satellite Beach Fire Department and Brevard County Rescue.
💗 The health care professionals at Holmes Regional Medical Center.

We are so proud of our officers! They provided the immediate and critical intervention needed to save this mans life. And, we are grateful for the amazing work of our partner agencies and health professionals who all contributed to saving this mans life.
