Pediatric Wizards

Pediatric Wizards The Magic of Caring!!! There are two separate waiting rooms to accommodate both sick and well children.

Dr. Helft has been caring for the children of Brevard County for almost twenty years and has built a well-respected pediatric practice known as Pediatric Wizards. As part of his commitment to children, Dr. Helft has taken part in a medical mission trip to Nicaragua and takes great pride in caring for the children of our military service members. His bright, fun, kid-centered office, located at 1310 West Eau Gallie Boulevard in Melbourne, starts with a yellow brick road leading to a Medieval Castle at the front desk. A sleeping dragon in the hallway leads the children to four exam rooms, each with a different theme to make patients of all ages feel comfortable. Parents love to see photos of their children posted on the walls, along with lots of sports memorabilia as Dr. Helft is a huge sports fan. Both healthy and sick children get excited to visit The Wizard and his Castle. The office has recently decided to open its Castle doors and accept new patients (so long as the family is willing to vaccinate, even using a modified schedule). Patients are accepted on an individual basis so that the practitioner sees no more than an average of thirty patients per day. Dr. Helft strongly believes in quality over quantity, and therefore believes that seeing a higher volume of patients (as most other pediatric practices do) would compromise the quality of care provided. He also realizes that waiting for long periods of time is unacceptable to busy parents and that patients should never be treated like a number. The office strives to make every family feel special and have their children receive the care and attention that they deserve. The Pediatric Wizards’ motto is “The Magic of Caring”, and every staff member is held to high standards to ensure each family and child is treated with respect, compassion, and the best medical care possible. To get a sense of why Dr. Helft and the staff of Pediatric Wizards are so beloved and respected in the community, check out the comments on their page, or visit their website at www.pediatricwizards.com.

❄️ Myth: Cold weather makes you sick.

✅ Fact: Germs (viruses + bacteria) make you sick — not the temperature.

Why people think cold weather causes illness:
• Kids tend to get sick more in winter, so it seems like the cold is the culprit.
• Parents often connect symptoms with chilly weather, wet hair, or being underdressed.

What actually causes winter illnesses:
1. We’re indoors more.
Kids spend more time in close contact with each other → germs spread faster.
2. Viruses survive better in cold, dry air.
Low humidity helps viruses linger and travel farther in the air.
3. Noses get drier.
The nasal lining becomes less effective at trapping germs.
4. Holiday gathering season = more exposure.
Family events, school parties, and travel mix lots of germs.

What cold weather DOES do:
• It can make kids feel cold, uncomfortable, or shivery.
• It can trigger runny noses (from blood vessels opening up in the cold).
• It can flare conditions like asthma or eczema.

But it does not directly cause viruses to infect the body.

Cold air doesn’t make kids sick — but germs love winter. Keep hands clean, keep kids warm, and watch symptoms, not the thermometer.
