What an incredibly fun night last week with the Boston Business Women’s group. We celebrated the 10th anniversary of the organization. As a business owner I am consistently impressed by those keeping in for the long haul. We have a ways to go to get to our silver here at Evolved but staying inspired never hurts.

Airway health is a lifelong story.
From infants learning to feed, to adults struggling with sleep or jaw tension, to older adults protecting their swallow we see the same system is at work.
As an SLP with muscle function focus I see airway function as something we nurture across the lifespan.
How we breathe, swallow, rest and communicate shapes how we live Airway health is a lifelong story.

We’ve been playing with defining this concept here at Evolved for about 9 months.

Breathing isn’t just in your lungs, it’s in your muscles, posture, airway & patterns.

Big B Breathing— structure & function. Muscles of the orofacial complex, airway, tissues that support breathing.

Little B Breathing— subtle changes. Tension points, bracing, regulation shifts.

Research confirms what many of us see in clinic: muscle tension plays a role in dysphagia. When muscles are “under pressure” swallowing becomes harder.

The good news?
Releasing tension in the larynx helped patients resolve problems.

For SLPs and patients alike MUSCLES MATTER.

Tension influences function.
Function influences swallowing.
