🌎Liver 3 is the Shu Stream and Earth point. It is also the Source Point on the Liver channel. It is arguably the most important point on the Liver channel.

🟢 Liver 3 has an extensive range of actions being able to effectively treat both excess and deficiency patterns of the Liver organ and channel.

🔄 The Liver functions in the spreading of Qi, meaning it ensures that the flow of Qi(and consequently blood) remains free, easy open, relax, and unobstructed.

Therefore, for this reason, any pattern of Liver disharmony may be accompanied by Qi stagnation.
This causes feelings of:
🔸️Pressure
🔸️Distention
🔸️Pain

Especially in areas traversed by the Liver and Gallbladder channels ( The head, eyes, throat, chest, heart, breast, uterus, ge****ls).

As well as:
🔸️Emotional stress
🔸️Menstrual issues.

📚 The name "Tai Chong" (Great Rushing /Great Pouring)
Is a reference to the point's ability to move stagnant Qi.

🟢 Liver 3 also has the ability to generate Liver Yin, which is the root of ascending Yang. And Liver Blood/Yin, the root of Liver Wind. This means Liver 3 is able to subdue excess and nourish deficiency, allowing treatment for BOTH root and manifestation of these patterns.

⬇️⬇️⬇️ COMBINATIONS ⬇️⬇️⬇️

😔 Abdominal distention leading to back pain: LV3+SP3 (Great Compendum)

🦵 Weakness in the legs: Moxa to LV3, +ST45+GB31 (Outline of Medicine)

😫 Vertex headache: LV3+DU20+LI4 (Me)

🛑 Qi stagnation: LV3+GB34

🤓 The shoulder joint (glenohumeral joint) is a diarthrotic joint that allows free movement of the upper arm.

The rotator cuff is a group of 4️⃣ muscles and their tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint and allow you to move your arm.

➡️ Commonly referred to as the SITS Muscles:

✅️Surpaspinatus
✅️Infraspinatus
✅️Teres Minor (❌️ Teres Major) and
✅️Subscapularis

are the muscles (and their tendons) that make up the "Rotator Cuff".

💪💪🏾Common issues of the rotator cuff are tears in the muscles or tendons, or "frozen shoulder," where the tissues in the shoulder capsule become thickened or inflamed, causing stiffness and pain of the shoulder.

⛑️ Shoulder pain can limit sports and activities. If you are experiencing shoulder pain, don't hesitate to reach out for a consult and treatment!

🉐 A Choppy pulse is the opposite of a slippery pulse which is known to be extremely fluid. Chinese texts describe the Choppy pulse as " a knife scraping bamboo"

✴✴ Occasionally, a Choppy pulse is irregular in rhythm (measured by beats per breath). In this case we say "the 3 and 5 not adjusted", meaning sometimes there are 3 beats per breath, and sometimes there are 5. (4 beats per breath is considered normal rhythm)

✴✴ A Choppy pulse is usually a Yin type pulse

🉐 A Choppy pulse is also known as Se Mai as well as a Hesitant pulse.

The 2 main functions of the Large Intestine are :

1) Controlling passage and conduction
2) Transforming food and reabsorbing fluids

Therefore all Large Intestine patterns will deal with disturbances of bowel movements.

▶PIC #2 - This pattern can be caused by overconsumption of hot (in temperature and nature) and greasy foods, which tend to lead to Damp Heat. Along with alcohol consumption, these can be a common cause of this Pattern. Large Intestine Damp Heat is how TCM would classify Ulcerative Colitis or Crohns from a bioMedical perspective.

▶PIC #3 - When Dampness is retained in the L.I., it interferes with the organ's function of fluid absorption and stool excretion. The presence of mucus is indicative of Damp and the blood is indicative of Heat. Because of the Heat there may also be a foul smelling odor and burning of the a**s. If there is NO heat there will be no blood, but mucus remains.

▶PIC #4 - Dampness coming from the Spleen which then transfers to the LI (Earth - Metal). With consumption of alcohol, greasy and hot foods, and long lasting anger, worry, or anxiety causing Heat in the Intestine causing this Pattern. The Damp in the LI induces a further deficiency in the SP. In TCM any intestinal problem involves both the Large and Small Intestine. Therefore there will also be Damp Heat in the Small Intestine.

▶PIC #5 -
Caused by Damp: abdominal fullness, diarrhea, mucus in stool, feeling.of heaviness, slippery pulse, sticky tongue coating

Caused by Heat: blood in stools, burning in a**s, dark scanty urine, rapid pulse, yellow tongue coating

▶PIC #6 -
SP-9 / SP-6 / CV-3 / BL-22 - resolve Damp

ST-25 - Front Mu of LI

ST-27 - Abdominal Pain

CV-6 - Move Qi in lower Jiao (to resolve Damp)

BL-25 - Back Shu of LI

LI-11 - Clear Heat

CV-12 / BL-20 - Tonify SP to resolve Damp

ST-37 -Lower He Sea of LI

SP-10 Stop Bleeding. (Although I would gravitate to SP-8)

BONUS - HERBAL FORMULAS

Identification of patterns based on Qi

Qi is one of the 5 Vital Substances in in TCM. They are:
✔Qi
✔Blood [Xue]
✔Body Fluids [Jin / Ye]
✔Shen
✔and Essence [Jing].

We can Identify Patterns based on Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids as well as Zang Fu, Five Elements, San Jiao, 8 principle, 4 levels, and 6 channels.

identifying a pattern based on Vital Substance only gives a general overview of the sign and symptoms. We can become more specific when we attach the substance to an organ. In the case of Qi, has 4 Pathologies.

⬇ Qi Deficiency - an overall deficiency in Qi, here we should address LU and SP since there are the 2 major organs in the formation of Qi

〽 Qi Sinking - an extreme case of of Qi Deficiency. The major sign and symptom is organ prolpase. This is a function specific to the Spleen's function of holding / preventing prolapse

🛑 Qi Stagnation - The smooth flow of qi has become disturbed. Since the Liver organ is in charge of the smooth flow of Qi, addressing the LV organ in these cases is recommended.

🔃 Qi Rebellion / Counterflow of Qi - Occurs when the Qi mechanism [the natural flow of qi for an organ] of an organ flows in the incorrect direction, giving organ specific signs and symptoms. For example, the Lung organs Qi mechanism is to descend. Rebellious Lung qi therefore will ascend giving rise to such symptoms as cough and wheezing.

Again depending on the organ affected, what the specific sign and symptom of a Qi issue will look like. This is because we can relate an organs Qi to it's function, therefore LU QI Deficiency, will look different than SP Qi Deficiency because LU and SP have different functions. The commonalities would lie in the general sign and symptoms such as tiredness, lassitude, poor appetite, pale tongue, and weak pulse.
