In recovery, it’s easy to swing to the other extreme. After years of not showing up, not caring, not being present, we try to make up for lost time by being everything to everyone. We pour ourselves into helping, fixing, serving—sometimes at the cost of ourselves.
But recovery isn’t about punishment or proving our worth. It’s about learning balance. You don’t have to abandon yourself to be of service. You don’t have to burn out to make amends.
The most powerful thing we can offer others is a healthy, grounded version of ourselves. Rest is not selfish. Boundaries are not failures. Taking care of yourself is not turning your back on anyone—it’s honoring the life you fought so hard to get back.
Healing means learning when to give… and when to sit down, breathe, and receive.
Balance is recovery too. 💛
