We recently implemented the Intuitive da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, a new, leading-edge technology. Dr. David Engle, a surgeon with Baptist Medical Group-Gynecology Surgical Specialists, says this new robotic surgical system provides a magnified view, enabling surgeons to make precise movements using small instruments inside a patient’s body. This advanced system helps surgeons perform complex surgeries, including gynecologic, urologic, thoracic, cardiac and general, with great accuracy.

As a hospitalist physician, I have the privilege of working alongside many dedicated nurses, but every now and then, someone truly exceptional stands out. Jayden is one of those rare individuals whose compassion, clinical skills and unwavering commitment to patient care elevate the standard of nursing practice. She communicated complex medical information into language the families could understand, never rushed their questions, and consistently treated them with kindness and dignity. Nurses like Jayden are the backbone of patient care in our hospital, and it is a privilege to work beside her. She embodies the spirit of the Daisy award through her dedication, skill and humility.

Sepsis is a life-threatening response to infection in the body and symptoms include fever, altered mental status, shortness of breath and elevated heart rate. Our Quality team spent the month of September educating clinical teams about the importance of recognizing these symptoms quickly so treatment can be started. Use of standardized screening tools and evidence-based protocols are play a critical role in identifying patients at risk.
