Big news from Le Bonheur! 🎉We are proud to announce that two of our community programs, the Family Resilience Initiative (FRI) and Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), will be receiving MPACT Awards from Slingshot Memphis! This recognition highlights the incredible dedication of our teams and the meaningful work we do every day to support children and families in our community.

The MPACT Awards is Memphis’ signature poverty-fighting celebration to recognize the nonprofits and the philanthropists who are helping revolutionize poverty-fighting effectiveness.

FRI is a multidisciplinary collaboration that screens for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and social drivers of health (SDOH) in children presenting at the UT Le Bonheur Pediatric Specialist Clinic, aged 9 months to 4 years and 29 days. Eligible families receive trauma-informed care, connections to resources such as referrals for food, utility or rental assistance or a mental health provider based on assessments conducted by highly trained outreach coordinators. The medical team collects biological samples to study the impact of wraparound services on the child’s long-term health.

NFP is an evidence-based home visitation program designed for first-time pregnant mothers in need, starting early in the pregnancy and continuing until the child’s second birthday. Since its establishment in 2010, the program has supported more than 1,800 families.

Both programs will be honored during the 3rd Annual MPACT Awards on March 5. We are of these organizations and the impactful work they contribute to our patients, families and communities.

We had our 2025 Fall NFP Graduation yesterday and graduated 29 families! We had a sweet graduation ceremony followed by trick or treating, pictures with Mickey Mouse, face painting, animal balloons, sidewalk chalk and bubbles and lunch. We are so proud of these families for completing the program!!!

NFP celebrated 15 years in Memphis yesterday!!!! Thank you for all of our community partners, funders and clients who attended!

Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital’s Nurse-Family Partnership program is celebrating 15 years of supporting first-time mothers.

Breastfeeding can be one of the first steps in building a strong foundation for a baby’s health, but not every mom has access to the support she needs to start that journey.

This Black Maternal Health Week, we’re proud to share that 85% of Black moms in Nurse-Family Partnership initiated breastfeeding in 2022, well above the national average of 75%.

That’s the power of trusted relationships and care rooted in listening, respect and partnership.

NFP nurses walk alongside first-time moms, offering encouragement, education, and support during pregnancy and beyond. Helping to close the gap in breastfeeding rates and build healthier futures for Black families.

We love what we do!!!!

When Destaynae Jameson talks about Katie Montgomery, the nurse supporting her through Le Bonheur’s Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program, her eyes grow bright and a wide smile breaks out across her face.

“My nurse is basically a part of my family at this point — she’s a friend,” said Jameson, who first met Montgomery in fall of 2022
after enrolling in NFP. “Katie is somebody I would invite to my baby’s christening, my baby’s birthday party … she’s on the guest list, and I say that because she looks after me as if I’m a sister or a friend. I can talk to my nurse about anything; there’s no such thing as a dumb question. Even if I just want to talk about life stuff, Katie is there.”

For Jameson, getting connected with NFP was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. While working for the Memphis New Mothers Study, she became pregnant with her first child and a nurse colleague suggested she look into Nurse-Family Partnership — an evidence-based home visitation program for first-time mothers. NFP participants are enrolled prenatally prior to their 29th week of pregnancy and regularly receive free, one-on-one in-home visits with a Le Bonheur nurse until their child’s second birthday.
