My husband and I had the privilege of attending the “Shine a Light” dinner last night, celebrating 10 years of supporting families of children impacted by chronic illness.
We heard stories of families who felt such kindness and care and even JOY (thanks to Spreading Sunshine Family Care, Year of Sunshine, and Sunshine Boxes) in the midst of times that are otherwise lonely and scary.
It was also so moving to see Dr. Paul Klimo, neurosurgeon at , , , be honored for the way he has been a light to families of children with brain tumors. In my residency training at LeBonheur I didn’t know him personally, although we shared many patients; he was just the guy who was always there, always taking care of kids.
I knew his reputation as a surgeon was impeccable and that if a kid was in his hands, we knew they’d get the best possible outcome. But last night we got to hear stories of how he shows such compassion and kindness to families as they walk through the scary world of having a child with a brain tumor, and what a gift he is in that way.
The whole night was beautiful, seeing how the Lord has worked through his organization to bless so many families with moments of Light in otherwise very dark moments.
Please consider donating to and join in being a light to kids and families in Memphis - and all over the country!
