STARTING AGAIN: Have you ever been excited about a thing? You were so committed but somewhere along the way, you fell off and lost the motivation and enthusiam that once propeled you to reach your next level. We've all been there. It's okay to START AGAIN. Never allow your dreams to be swollowed up with apathy and discouragement. Just START AGAIN. At one time, I was posting messages every week and somewhere along the way, life became even more busy and I stopped. Now with this post, I will START AGAIN. ~Dr. Charlotte M. BLACK AND BROWN CHILDREN IN MAJORITY WHITE PRIVATE SCHOOLS: I just read a post about a young lady's negative racist experiences attending a predominant white private school and it caused me to pause. Unfortunately, this is the story of many Black youth whose parents truly just want better for their children. They want better education, better networking opportunities, and a better future. In most instances, the cost undermines our youth's self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-concept. Not only is the educational cost for private schools expensive, the damage to their mental health can be devastating, leading many of our youth to need therapy. Many of the parents are in a quandary as to why they need therapy when they have the best of everything. In the parents mind, the child has NOTHING to complain about, be depressed over or anxiously consider school problems. It's not a small thing to be in a school 9 months out of the year and not feel loved, valued, and accepted. Parents reading this thread, the student's transparency about the teachers and students' racist comments and actions towards/about her is not an isolated case. Have real conversations with your children about the challenges of school. Some Black children do wonderful - growing and thriving-at private majority white schools, but from what I know, most are trying to live up to the parent's dream that this private school education will open so many doors for you in the future. That may be true but the cost to many of our youth can be devastating. White America must see how their actions contribute to the problem, take a second look when it comes to children's attitude towards school, and make changes as needed.

MODERN DAY SLAVE TRADE: What is the possible implication of suddenly ripping children from their parents? It does psychological harm to the parent and the child as both are thrown into absolute uncertainty about their future, resulting in depression and anxiety. However, it also likely prompts parents who will later try to cross the border to start preparing their children for the inevitable separation which stunts their emotional development. They will now be taught to stuff their feelings, be strong, survive!! Despite the absence of parents, guidance, protection and cultural roots, just survive. Does this not sound like modern day origins of the slave trade?- Charlotte Freeman, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Consultant, Trainer

CHOOSE JOY: So many people clamor for the all elusive state of "happiness." We want, need, long to be happy. However, happiness depends on what is happening! If things are going well, then we are happy. If things are not going well, we are not happy. Happiness depends on what is happening in your life at that one moment. Slow dow....have you considered the concept of Joy?? I have come to believe JOY is what we truly need. JOY is Jesus and You with either an Obstacle or an Opportunity in the midst.

Jesus+Obstacle/Opportunity +You

When we have Joy, we can better withstand the ups and downs of life because we choose to recognize every obstacle as an opportunity to grow. Today and every day of this unpredictable thing called life, choose to have joy. ~Charlotte M. Freeman, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Counseling. Consulting. Training

WAITING: "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of waiting!" Has this ever been your utterance in frustration and exasperation that you are yet in a holding pattern. Waiting on a job, waiting on a mate, waiting to be pregnant, waiting to adopt, waiting for the children to grow up, waiting to retire, waiting on that ever elusive blessing to come your way. Waiting is never easy when you have grown impatient. Step back, take a slow deep breath. Your impatience does not move the need forward any faster. It's about timing. You must prepare for the blessing. You desire a mate but you are selfish. Yeah, its about timing and preparation. Move with expectation and anticipation but never frustration. Your time is coming! ~Charlotte Freeman, Ph.D., Psychologist, Consultant, Presenter

GETTING TO THE GOOD: "I have no patience for foolishness. I have no patience for inconsistency. I have no patience for a guy with no money." The list could go on and on, detailing all of your objections to others' failings. Have you considered that these may be growth places for them and a place pf stretching for you? Sometimes we dismiss people too quickly and may miss out on the good in that person. Now I don't mean for you to accept domestic violence, humiliation, or betrayal. However, not everyone should be thrown away. Sometimes we can work to increase our patience for others who may not be as "perfect" as we are and maybe...just maybe..we will get to the good. - Charlotte M.
