Class of 2026 Spotlight🩺🧡

Lexi Phillips

Hometown: Southaven, MS

Undergrad: Mississippi State University

Why UTHSC?: I love them small cohort and personal relationships you build with the faculty and students. This program was different in the best way possible!

Why PA?: I love the opportunities that come with being in this field of medicine! The chance to practice different specialities is something that really grasped my attention when first looking at being a PA.

Clinical Experience: I was a medical assistant at a cardiovascular clinic for 2.5 years

Favorite place in Memphis?: Babalu

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Sleep

Advice for Pre-PAs?: Enjoy your time before school starts! Find something that makes you happy, and make sure to stick to it throughout school - it makes a big difference to prioritize “me-time”!

Riya Patel

Hometown: Fayetteville, TN

Undergrad: University of Alabama in Huntsville Biology major

Why UTHSC?: I chose UTHSC because the faculty were so welcoming, and the hands-on learning with cadavers and CHIPS simulations fit into what I was looking for.

Why PA?: I chose the PA profession because I love that you can always collaborate with a doctor when needed, but still have the autonomy to make your own clinical decisions.

Clinical Experience: MRI Tech Assistant

Favorite place in Memphis?: My apartment🤍

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Binge watch tv shows and movies.

Fun Facts: I love taking pictures of the moon!!

Melonie Bloomfield

Hometown: Norco, CA

Undergrad: University of La Verne- Kinesiology B.S.

Why UTHSC?: I chose the UTHSC PA program because of its strong emphasis on hands-on clinical training and service to diverse communities. I was drawn to the program’s mission to prepare compassionate, patient-centered providers, and I believe the collaborative learning environment at UTHSC will help me grow into a well-rounded and confident PA!

Why PA?: I chose to be a PA because it combines my love for medicine with flexibility and lifelong learning. Being a PA allows me to provide meaningful care while working in different specialties as well as continuously expand my skills and grow alongside other providers!

Clinical Experience: Emergency medicine scribe at Corona Regional hospital
Medical scribe at Vanderbilt Orthopedic Clinic
Inpatient phlebotomist at Tennova Healthcare

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: I take a nap and try to let my brain catch up!

Advice for pre-PA?: Remember to have fun! Pre-PA life can be intense so don’t forget to laugh through the awkward moments, weird patient encounters, or late-night study marathons! It makes the experience bearable and A LOT more memorable!

Fun Facts: I studied abroad in Italy during undergrad!
I also enjoy fishing, baking, and shopping (especially at HomeGoods) in my free time!
