What's in a wound dressing?
Lymphedema is an underrecognized and undertreated chronic condition. Caused by a chronic accumulation of lymph, longstanding lymphedema can lead to the accumulation of fibroadipose tissue changes, which can result in limb deformity, fibrosis, and chronic ulceration.
The best management approaches must include compression as one of the most important arms of therapy, which is easily implemented in compression bandages.
In this patient's case, she had developed Stage 3 lymphedema, and came to the clinic with ulceration on both legs as a consequence of her fibrotic changes.
The implementation seen above uses Coban 2 compression wraps, though a number of other products on the market are similar and can achieve the same results.
