With generous support from our friends at the Maine Credit Union League, MHBBCH has expanded its efforts to assist families experiencing food insecurity through the recent purchase of a refrigerator and freezer. Located in the hospital's Atrium and stocked with meals from Wayside Food Programs, patient families are welcome to help themselves to nutritious meals, allowing them one less concern during their child's hospitalization. We are grateful for the opportunity to further support the health and well-being of families in our care. 💙

Luca, a former patient at MHBBCH, turned his experience into something truly inspiring. Wanting to give back, he came up with not one, not two, but three creative fundraising ideas:
🍋 A lemonade & iced tea stand
🍪 A bake sale
🧼 And handmade soap sales!

Thanks to his incredible effort and big heart, Luca raised an amazing $550 to support the kids in our care. 💙

👏 Thank you, Luca, for your kindness, creativity and generosity!

A patient’s family nominated Madison, a nurse at MHBBCH, for a DAISY award following her care of their toddler during a three-month hospital stay. The family credits Madison with above-and-beyond support throughout his illness and said she created a safe atmosphere that allowed them to share how they felt about returning to the hospital where their son began his life in the neonatal intensive care unit two years ago.

“Madison listened with great compassion as I shared the difficulty of being back in the same hospital where our son spent his first month of life, once again facing many unknowns. It was the first time since our admission that I felt I could speak plainly about everything we had experienced — Madison offered a sense of ease that I can still feel to this day.”

Madison’s nominator went on to say, “She listened to us when we had questions after we met with providers to discuss complex medical information and sought answers when we needed more guidance. She comforted us when it all felt like too much. We’ll forever be grateful to Madison and the team at BBCH for providing the best care.”

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was created to recognize and honor the compassionate care nurses provide every day to the patients they serve. It is celebrated in over 5,400 healthcare facilities and nursing schools in 34 countries.

Congratulations, Madison!
