Chronic kidney disease affects millions, but Black individuals are more likely to progress to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis. Conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure play a major role. Out interventional radiologists help support dialysis patients by creating and maintaining reliable dialysis access to support ongoing treatment.

Heavy periods, pelvic pressure, or pain shouldn’t be ignored. Early awareness can lead to earlier care and more treatment choices.

Uterine fibroids are common, but they don’t affect everyone equally. Black women are 2.5–3 times more likely to develop fibroids — often with more symptoms like heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and anemia. Our interventional radiologists can treat symptomatic fibroids with uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), a minimally invasive option that preserves the uterus.

PAD isn’t just leg pain — it can be life-changing. Black adults with PAD are up to four times more likely to undergo a lower-limb amputation, often because the disease is diagnosed later or treated after it has progressed. Early detection and minimally invasive vascular treatments can help improve blood flow and reduce the risk of limb loss.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) affects blood flow to the legs and feet. Black adults are 2–3 times more likely to develop PAD, often due to higher rates of risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, and smoking.
Symptoms may include leg pain with walking, numbness, or slow-healing wounds. Our experienced interventional radiologists can treat PAD with minimally invasive procedures to improve circulation and help reduce complications.

Fibroids are common, but their impact isn’t the same for everyone. Black women tend to develop fibroids earlier, with larger and more symptomatic growths, and often face delays in diagnosis. Sharing information helps support earlier care and informed health decisions.

VIP interventional radiologists treat symptomatic fibroids with uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), a minimally invasive option that reduces fibroid size by targeting their blood supply. Knowing your options — including UFE — is an important part of making informed healthcare decisions.

Did you know uterine fibroids are one of the most common non-cancerous growths affecting people with a uterus? 👀 Fibroids are much more common and often more severe in Black women compared with other racial groups. Up to 80–90 % of Black women may develop fibroids by age 50 and symptoms can include heavy periods, pain, anemia, and fertility issues.

VIP's interventional radiologists can treat symptomatic fibroids with uterine fibroid embolization (UFE)– a minimally invasive procedure that shrinks fibroids by blocking blood flow. Awareness of all treatment options, including UFE, is essential for informed decision-making.

Happy Black History Month! ❤️
This month, we’re honoring the contributions, resilience, and stories of the Black community – and highlighting important health conditions that disproportionately affect Black patients. Throughout February, we’ll share educational posts about conditions treated by our VIP doctors – why they matter, how common they are, and how early intervention can make a difference.
Let's learn, raise awareness, and support better health together. 😌
