Giving birth has been likened to being in a labyrinth. Not knowing exactly where you have to go to get to the end, but committing to the experience and wherever it may lead you. This momma's second Alba birth was much like this. Her first birth was a planned hospital birth turned cesarean, and her next was a redemptive VBAC at the birth center. For her third birth, she was hoping for something a bit quicker, and hopefully straightforward!
However, this is not always the lesson of birth.
Labor had a bit of a stop & start pattern for a day, finally leading into a more solid labor pattern, but really only staying strong & consistent in upright positions. She labored with determination through the night and as the sun rose; felt the urge to push! After pushing longer than she anticipated, her baby girl finally made her appearance, completely posterior!
Posterior babies, or “sunny side up” presenting babies, are positioned with their spine to their mothers spine, facing up! Most babies if posterior, will turn during labor to be anterior(with their spine to their mothers stomach) as pushing starts, to help the diameter of the head be smaller and easier to emerge.
Evelyn decided to surprise us all (while validating her mother’s experience of something feeling much different from her previous labor experiences) and was born perfectly posterior, greeting us all with an adorably grouchy expression!
Welcome Evelyn! 7lb 3 oz🤍
