Thanksgiving can be especially tough for those going through Grief. While Thanksgiving is a time of year to be thankful for what you have, it can be difficult to tap into positive thoughts when all you can think about is your loved one not there.

No matter what you’re feeling this Thanksgiving, it’s important to know that it’s okay to grieve. Grieving a recent death, or even one that happened a while back, is completely normal and acceptable.

Incorporate a moment of silence before, during, or after your Thanksgiving meal, asking folks to pause to remember and give thanks for the love of those not present due to death, or other reasons. Tell stories about your loved one and how they celebrated the holiday when alive.

You CAN have a visitation if you choose cremation. The staff at Bailey Funeral Home is experienced in and passionate about helping families plan dignified services that fit their needs and wishes.

When you choose cremation, you aren't limited in your choice of services. This is a common misconception. When it comes to funerals, there are many ways we can customize and personalize tributes to fit the needs of your family. We offer beautiful ceremonial casket options for visitations and funeral services so your family can gather, grieve and begin to find closure through traditional funeral events, while still honoring your loved one's wishes for cremation.

The simple answer is yes. Cremation, like burial, is a form of disposition that can occur after all

The Covid-19 pandemic has been really difficult on the world as a whole, complicating otherwise simple, mundane tasks like getting work done for our jobs and around the house, going food shopping, interacting with our families, and more. It's also complicated grieving and how we support our friends and loved ones who are dealing with profound loss.

What's Your Grief? is run by two Baltimore-based mental health professionals and delves into the depths of grieving - what it looks like, what our resources are, how to move through grief (not "get over it"), and ways to honor and remember our loved ones lost.

If you're struggling to find ways to support someone, this article shares some of the practical and creative ways we can be there for those in our lives who are coping with loss, even without being able to be right there with them. While we can't show up in person to give them a hug at a wake or be present at a funeral service, we can still be present in their lives and foster a safe space for them. It isn't difficult, either. Send a card, a care package, let them know you're thinking of them, ask them what they need. Let's get through this together.

Quarantine has been tough on everyone. Holed up inside, we miss our friends, coworkers, neighbors, and classmates. Many of us are lucky enough to be braving this pandemic with our families, but just as many of us are very alone during a time when support is crucial. Senior citizens in nursing homes and hospitals are even more isolated than we are - confined to their rooms with many facilities barring visitors for health safety reasons, it’s easy to see how these situations can foster devastating loneliness. However, we can do our part from home to help them.

Love for the Elderly is a nonprofit organization that accepts letters of love and support and distributes them to nursing homes all over. Your card or letter doesn’t have to be much - something simple, easy to read, colorful, and cheerful. You can share a joke with a senior, draw a picture, or tell a happy story to lift the spirits of someone who really needs it right now.

If you’d like to get involved, click the link below for more info on what to put in your letters and where to send them - you can even make it a family activity to get everyone involved in brightening someone’s day.

If you’d like to send a smile to a senior in our own community, consider sending a letter to:

Holly Manor Center
C/O Jennie Benoist
84 Cold Hill Rd
Mendham NJ 07945

Let’s all be here for each other during these difficult times, stay safe and healthy!

We're a nonprofit that believes no elderly person should feel alone. Volunteer for our cause of kindness, respect, and love for our eldest and wisest generation. Write letters to the elderly, throw senior citizens a party, advocate against elder abuse and on elder-related issues, & more.
