I keep hearing that everyone will stop shopping at Goodwill because of their rising prices.
I have a different theory.
I’ve noticed the shelves looking awfully bare lately and it has me thinking…
Personally, I’m not going to stop shopping at Goodwill. I have, however, stopped donating. Maybe others have to?
I don’t want anyone getting gouged on my donations. 😅 Instead, we’re donating to a local thrift store that prides itself on pricing nothing over $5.
That said, I understand that Goodwill has to make money—they have overhead, employees to pay, and programs to support. I just feel like sometimes I’m left shaking my head.
Am I still going to shop there? Yes. Am I still going to pay up for something when the value is there? Yes. I just feel like they need to consider the people donating these items and then seeing them for $40 on the shelf.
If those people are like me, they donated because they wanted to pass their items along to someone who could use them—regardless of whether they’re a reseller or buying for themselves.
This is my opinion, but the donated items were free, anything more than $10 is excessive—even if it’s worth $100. I’ve always thought thrift stores should be operating in moving volume.
I guess what I’m saying is—I do think that, despite popular opinion, people will continue to shop at Goodwill regardless of the prices. I know I will. But will they continue to donate? What are your thoughts?
(Also, just to be clear, this was the most recent pic I had of Goodwill. I’m not talking about any specific Goodwill. I’ve always found the prices reasonable at this Goodwill.)
