Joseph Edward Eugene Miron, 86 of Menominee, Michigan passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 with his family by his side. Joseph was born on August 14th, 1939 in Escanaba, Michigan to the late Elmer and Elsie Miron of Marquette, Michigan. He attended Bishop Baraga Catholic High School in Marquette, Michigan where he met his future wife, Evelyn. They married On August 8th, 1964 and were together for 56 years prior to her passing on November 12, 2020.
Joe graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1963 and later earned a Master’s Degree in secondary education. He loved languages and was fluent in French and Spanish. He had a passion for teaching and taught French, Spanish, geography, and history at Menominee High School during his 35-year career.
Joe loved to travel, and he and Ev shared their love of travel and adventure with their children and grand-children. They took their children on weeks-long camping trips every summer. In their later years they wintered in Arizona, met new friends, and explored the south-west. Joe and Ev ventured abroad to Europe many times and brought back memories, photographs, and stories.
Joe loved photography as evidenced by the many volumes of family and nature photos he and his wife created over their lifetime together. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty of his green thumb with his friends and neighbors. He liked spicy food and would sometimes set out appetizers with particularly spicy cheeses to chuckle at the reactions of others. He had a sweet tooth and never met a caramel he wouldn’t eat.
He attended every sports game and activity his kids had during their childhood and continued to cheer for Michael and Steven during their Ironman competitions later in life. He sent cards for birthdays and holidays and his children could find a treasured card for Easter, Christmas, and birthdays in the mail days before the event.
He was a long-suffering Lion’s fan, and was especially fond of baseball. He loved the Detroit Tiger’s and watching games with his children. He loved western shows and books and read every night before bed.
He was a devoted Catholic and was a lifelong member of Resurrection Parish which provided him with solace and community throughout his life. He and Evelyn were in choir together for 35 years and particularly enjoyed participating in the yearly Christmas performances. After his wife passed he petitioned the parish to devote services for Evelyn and was present at many of them. He practiced a daily devotion of prayer each morning and evening. He believed that the church was a place for all, and encouraged his children and grandchildren to have faith and trust in God.
After the death of his beloved wife, he remained active and in his own home with help from his friends and children, particularly his youngest son, Jason. He went on adventures with his children-a cruise through the Caribbean, trips to North Carolina, and a tour of Canada. He met his great-grandson, Colby, spent time with his brother Paul and sisters Anne and Kathleen and hosted family throughout the year. His sense of humor and storytelling were legendary and Christmas was a special time for he and his family.
He was so proud of his family, his children, and his grandchildren. He loved his family with every fiber of his being. He lit up at every phone call, and every interaction. He laughed and he loved and he LIVED. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy of faith, laughter, love, and joy for life will live on in the memories of his loved ones.
He is survived by his sisters Anne and Kathleen and his best friend and brother Paul as well as his children Michael, Stephen, Kristine, and Jason and his loving grandchildren Sarah, Claire, Grace, Anne, Madison and Nathan, and great-grandson Colby as well as Jan, Jean, and Joan Ball his loving neighbors and life-long friends.
