Why do we have activity restrictions after surgery?
Some activities can put stress directly on the surgical site- like trying to do planks after having an abdominoplasty. But even when the surgical site isn't directly affected, increased activity causes increased swelling, which slows down healing. It can also cause bleeding, which for some operations (e.g. breast augmentation) means we need to go back to the operating room to stop the bleeding.

The amount of time you need off after surgery depends both on what type of surgery you're having done, and what type of work you do. Patients who do a lot of physical activity or heavy lifting may need a full four weeks off after surgery. But for patients with less physically demanding jobs, time off ranges from just a few days for something like an upper eye lift, to two weeks after combined procedures where more than one operation is performed.

Tummy tuck or liposuction?

Liposuction removes excess fat under the skin, in the subcutaneous layer. So it's a great option for patients who have a little bit of excess fat, but no loose skin.

Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and tightens abdominal muscles, and is commonly done after pregnancy or weight loss.

Sometimes the two procedures are combined, depending on the particular needs of the patient.
