Congratulations Kassey Mosher, Chief Philanthropy Officer for being recognized in the 2025 Acts of Humankindness Awards! This award celebrates team members whose Acts of Humankindness bring our values and mission to life. Read what the person who nominated Kassey had to say:

"Kassey, our Chief Philanthropy Officer at Mercy Medical Center Merced, consistently goes above the call of duty.

She implemented the 'Adopt a Family' program at Mercy Merced, enabling us to support team members facing difficult times during the holidays, ensuring their families can have a good holiday season.

However, her commitment extends even further. I have had personal team members who needed additional support throughout the year, and Kassey has never hesitated to provide assistance, whether it be food, clothing, hygiene products, or school supplies.

I have also worked alongside Kassey at our facility's backpack giveaway events.

On one occasion, I encountered an individual who shared that she was caring for her children and her daughters' infants but lacked car seats for all of them.

I immediately knew I could turn to Kassey for assistance, and she jumped right in.

Even though car seats were not being issued that day, she came over, listened to the individual's needs, and provided information on the next car seat giveaway and CHP fitting event.

She also gave the individual her personal contact information to ensure all her needs were met and to serve as a resource for any future needs.

Kassey then sprung into action and proceeded to fill the individual's car with diapers, toiletries, and socks.

This exemplifies Kassey's character — she goes above and beyond for every individual she encounters, ensuring they are heard and cared for. She is a kind ear, a warm heart, and a champion of advice and resources for our Mercy family as well as the community."

Congratulations Manuel Valencia for being recognized in the 2025 Acts of Humankindness Awards! This award celebrates team members whose Acts of Humankindness bring our values and mission to life. Read what the person who nominated Manuel had to say:

"I am nominating Manny Valencia because he consistently demonstrates acts of humankindness to all, every day.

When Manny hears someone asking for help, he assists without hesitation, regardless of how busy he is. You will never hear Manny say that he is “too busy” or “unavailable.”

Manny also actively helps with supplies and equipment for our ER department. I want to highlight that Manny's hard work in improving and shaping up the ER has not gone unnoticed. His strong work ethic is evident from the beginning to the very end of every shift, no matter how tired he may be.

I would also like to acknowledge his compassion and kind heart toward our patients. His mindset consistently prioritizes what is best for them.

There was a time when a young patient was being discharged with nothing to wear, and we didn't have any extra clothes in our department. Manny voluntarily went to his car, grabbed whatever clothes he had, and let the patient choose what he wanted so that he had something appropriate to wear.

Manny quietly removed the man's clothing and took it to be laundered so that he would have fresh clothing when it was time to be discharged.

During the wash, the man's shoes literally fell apart and I passed Manny as he was going to buy the man some shoes with his own money. I thanked Manny for his willingness to show Humankindness, but I was able to acquire a pair of shoes from another source. These are just a couple examples of how Manny emulates our values here at Mercy on a daily basis.

When we have patients who arrive with extremely dirty clothes and will be hospitalized for a few days, he will wash their clothes for them, ensuring they leave with clean garments."

Last week, we came together with philanthropic leaders representing 80 Foundations across the country to share our success and plans for the future as part of the CommonSpirit Health Philanthropy Annual Summit.
We are so proud to share that California as a whole was named Region of the Year.

To be part of this award is both humbling and motivating. This recognition belongs to our dedicated team, visionary donors, board, and the community partners who believe in our mission.

Congratulations Djohanna Marie Cruz, RN, BSN for being recognized in the 2025 Acts of Humankindness Awards! This award celebrates team members whose Acts of Humankindness bring our values and mission to life. Read what the person who nominated Djohanna had to say:

"I am honored to nominate Djohanna, RN, for recognition of her exceptional integrity, one of the core values of Dignity Health.

As her co-worker in the Emergency Department, I have seen firsthand that she is the type of nurse every colleague can trust—someone whose knowledge, skills, and attitude embody the highest standards of our profession.

Her commitment to integrity is evident every shift. She is a true patient advocate, always ensuring that safety remains her top priority—not only for the individuals she cares for but also for the hospital as a whole.

She communicates openly and respectfully with patients, families, and team members, and she practices with remarkable transparency.

Djohanna consistently owns her decisions, acknowledges mistakes when they occur, and uses every experience as an opportunity to grow both personally and within the team.

Djohanna’s honesty and compassion inspire trust among her patients, who often comment on the quality of care she provides. Her peers also turn to her for guidance because they know she is principled, fair, and dependable.

For these reasons, I wholeheartedly nominate Djohanna, RN, for recognition of her outstanding integrity and dedication to the values of Dignity Health."
