Advent of Words to live by… ✨

Every day in December I will be posting an advent-calendar-style message you need to hear.

I love a good advent calendar and these days we have chocolate advent calendars, cosmetics coffee, you name it.

I will be bringing you little parcels of comfort, hope, or just a perspective shift to move you out of overwhelmed and back into calm and peaceful.
Or at the very least, grateful: Because the state of gratitude is a powerful thing.

I will also be suggesting a journalling prompt you can carry out to help yourself or a small act of kindness to add to the ripple effect that keeps the whole world facing the light.

(This may seem like a task (and you have more than enough of those) but this will return the energy to you ten-fold in power 🤩.)

It is not easy, this life, even when it is wonderful. We need one another. And we need reminders of the fact that we are not alone, never, ever alone.

This community is a kind one.

What a thing.

Today… give yourself a treat of some kind - be that space from guilt and criticism in your thoughts or an hour of you-time doing whatever fuels your soul.

You are worthy.

(All of the words on my advent windows will be from ‘Joy Chose You’ or my journal ‘Words To Live By’)

The holidays don’t look the same for everyone—and that’s okay.
Maybe you’re grieving, overwhelmed, breaking old traditions, or simply craving quiet over festivities. Your feelings are valid, and taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of others.

If this season feels heavy, support is always available.
Call our 24/7 line at 913-268-0156 or reach out to 988 for mental health support.

You’re not alone.

Give today your best. That's it. Just your best for the day.

Some days, our best is all we can do, and that is okay!

Do you remember a time, even as an adult, when you had to hold it together long enough not to cry or breakdown in front of ... friends/co-workers/store workers?

Keep that in mind and remember a child's repertoire of coping mechanisms is fairly limited--and then give them a hug or some space, as needed. They made it home, what should be the safest place on earth.

So many of us are familiar with the "Your child is so well behaved!" for others and yet... at home?! It can be quite a different story! This is because they are holding it all in, and you are creating the safety for them to finally let it all out. They need that release!

We have a Tool called "Staylistening". It's where we come in close and allow space for our children to let it all out, while we stay mostly quiet, and connected and empathetic.

There are probably no other times in the calendar year where boundaries are as important to you as they are over the holiday seasons. Holidays can be overwhelming--saying "no" can make the difference between a good holiday season and one which takes you months to recover from.

The holidays are coming and boundaries might feel harder to set, but they're just as important. Here are some scripts you can use.
