🎉New Podcast Episode!

For the parents who feel conflicted about discipline…

If you’ve ever thought:
“I don’t want to be permissive… but this isn’t working either,”
you are not alone.

Many of us were taught that discipline means control, consequences, and making behavior stop, and when that doesn’t work, we feel pressure to become stricter.

In this week’s podcast episode, I talk about:
• why traditional discipline often breaks down for emotionally intense and neurodivergent kids
• how discipline during dysregulation can increase fear, shame, and escalation
• and how reframing discipline as teaching and mentoring changes the entire dynamic

This episode isn’t about judging how you’ve parented.

It’s about giving you permission to step out of pressure and into clarity.

🎉A special bonus episode this week...Thursday morning!

💛 For the parents who feel unsure in meltdown moments…

I want you to hear this today:

You don’t have to do everything perfectly. You just need to know what matters when.

In this week’s bonus episode, I share a simple roadmap for parenting meltdowns that focuses on:
• preparation before emotions rise
• calm, supportive presence during the meltdown
• and repair + learning after regulation returns

This episode isn’t about adding more strategies.

It’s about helping you feel steadier and more confident in the moment... and helping your child trust what to expect from you.

If meltdowns leave you feeling panicked or second-guessing yourself, I think this one will really support you.

🎉🥳New Episode Drops Today in our Exciting Series on Common Parent Questions!

💛 For the parent who feels discouraged…

If your child melts down and nothing you try seems to help, please hear this:
It doesn’t mean you’re failing.

It often means you’re reaching for teaching, discipline, or problem-solving when your child’s nervous system isn’t ready for it yet.

In this week’s podcast episode, we talk about:
• why emotional dysregulation makes tools stop working
• how sensory overload and stress affect behavior
• and why understanding timing changes everything

This episode isn’t about doing more. It’s about seeing the situation differently.

If you’ve been feeling stuck or depleted, I think this will bring some relief. Go listen and FOLLOW so you will be alerted to the rest in the series too!

🎉A Bonus Episode This Week! Hooray!

Let’s talk about something many of us have said at least once…
“It’s okay, calm down.”
“Stop crying.” OR
“It’s not that big of a deal.”

Most of the time, we say these things because we want to help.
We want our child to feel better… and we want the moment to settle.

But for emotionally intense and neurodivergent kids, especially when sensory processing and emotional dysregulation are involved, those words can unintentionally escalate emotions instead of calming them.

In this week’s podcast episode, I’m breaking down why that happens and what’s actually going on in your child’s nervous system in those moments.

🎉New Episode Alert!

Over the last few episodes, we’ve been talking about emotional dysregulation…
and what it means to parent a child who’s wired differently.

Today, we’re taking the next step.

Because once you understand why big emotions happen, the next question becomes…

“How do I know what I’m actually dealing with in the moment?”

In this week’s episode, I’m breaking down the difference between a tantrum and a meltdown… why they often look identical on the outside… and why responding to the wrong one can keep parents stuck in cycles of escalation.

If you’ve been listening along in this series, this episode will help everything click into place.

🎉New Podcast Episode!

Parenting a child with emotional, medical, or mental health needs can quietly affect your own mental health too. When uncertainty is constant, anxiety can build — and it can feel like you’re always bracing for the next hard moment.

In this episode, you’ll learn:
--Why parenting anxiety often increases when your child has complex needs
--What OCD and anxiety can really look like for parents
--How to stay calm and grounded when uncertainty triggers fear
--Encouragement for parents who are doing their best and still feel stretched

In this episode of the Calm Connection Parenting Podcast, I talk with nurse practitioner and mental health advocate Sarah Michelle Boes about parenting through anxiety and uncertainty while caring for a child with significant needs.

Sarah shares her experience parenting her daughter with a life-threatening heart condition while navigating her own diagnosis of OCD and anxiety...and how she’s learned to live with uncertainty without letting fear take control.

If you’re parenting through anxiety and wondering how to care for yourself while caring for your child, this conversation offers reassurance, perspective, and hope.

Tell me....do you ever feel like your mental health is impacted by your child's needs?

🌟FAQs About the Calm Connection Parent Coaching Program

Questions that people have asked about the program. Thought it might be information others here have wondered about as well.

So I thought I'd share!

❓How big are the coaching groups?

I try to keep them between 4-6 clients at a time. I want it to feel like a personal experience, and I want everyone to have time to talk and share.

❓How long are the weekly coaching sessions?

The weekly sessions are one hour. There are videos that can supplement what we do in the session. You are encouraged to use whatever modes of learning engage you best (video, workbooks, sessions, or combination). Some will want to dive deep and explore more and others will feel their bandwidth is limited and want to focus on the coaching sessions. This fits either approach...and everything in between.

You have access to the videos and workbooks for the life of the program, so you can review or revisit them whenever you'd like! Bonus!

❓How many clients have finished the full six months?

Of all clients beginning, only one didn't finish fully. Life happened, and they just weren't able to. And that was fine. However, she recently reported that she keeps all of her printed workbooks where she refers to them often for help. Isn't that great!?

One other was given a full scholarship, but did not ever attend a session. So sometimes, that's the drawback. People tend to need buy-in to show up and invest in making changes.

❓What kind of changes do people experience?

Many!! So many....in fact, I will share just a few of the testimonials I have for the program below so you can read their words!

And if you prefer data... consider this.
At the start of the program parents fill out a parent rating scale. The scales indicate stress, discomfort, overwhelm, etc. At the end of the program, they do the same rating scale again.

On the seven scales related to parents experience or emotions, the ratings had a 60-80% decrease in these troubling emotions or experiences. That can be a huge change in six months!

It has helped many parents reclaim time, energy, and peace of mind!

Do you have other questions about the program? I'd be happy to answer them. Our next group is starting this coming week, and I couldn't be more excited! Hooray! 🥳🎉

01/13/2026

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share something personal with you. I just joined the Neuro-Transformation Training, and I’m doing it for one simple reason… I work with parents who are living in constant stress, and I refuse to let trial and error be the best option they’re offered.

As a licensed professional counselor, parent coach, and a mom of seven, my work has always been about helping families move from emotional chaos to calm connection.

But here’s the truth… even with training, experience, and a whole toolbox of strategies, there’s nothing like living it inside your own home.

When your child is emotionally intense,
when meltdowns are frequent,
when the nervous system is on high alert… it changes everything. Your patience, your marriage, your confidence, your faith… all of it gets tested.

There were seasons where I felt like I was constantly bracing for impact.
Like I was always trying to prevent the next explosion… and failing anyway.

And the hardest part wasn’t just the behavior… it was what it did inside me.
The second-guessing. The guilt.
The quiet fear that I was doing it wrong… or worse…
That I was becoming my child’s trigger.

Meanwhile, the outside world is full of opinions. People who mean well, but don’t understand. People who say things like, “Have you tried being more strict or consistent?” or “He wouldn’t do that if you didn’t allow it.”

And you’re standing there thinking… If you only knew how hard I’m trying.

What shifted for me was realizing this…
We can’t parent our way out of nervous system overload with willpower and good intentions.
Connection doesn’t start with the perfect consequence. It starts with regulation.

When I began to truly understand the brain-body connection… how stress responses hijack behavior… how safety changes everything… I stopped chasing “quick fixes” and started building a calmer, more strategic path forward.

Not just for my child… but for me.

Here are a few of the principles I now live and teach - the ones that changed everything:
• I stopped trying to “win the moment” and started trying to create safety in the moment
• I learned to discern the difference between defiance and dysregulation
• I focused on root causes: sensory overwhelm, executive functioning gaps, anxiety, unmet emotional needs
• I built a simple plan for what to do before, during, and after meltdowns
• I practiced co-regulation first - because skills don’t stick when a child feels stuck in fight-or-flight
• And I gave parents language that actually works… because simply telling a child to “calm down” has never really been very effective…it just backfires.

Joining this Neuro-Transformation Training matters to me because I don’t want my work to only be encouraging. I want it to be transformational.

Parents don’t need more information… they need integration.
They need tools that work when they’re tired, triggered, and on the edge. They need strategies that match what the nervous system is doing in real time.

If you’re a parent who loves your child deeply but feels like you’re tired of walking on eggshells, living on the edge of the next meltdown…

I want you to hear this clearly… you’re not failing. You’re not alone. You don’t have to feel lost. You can gain your clarity and confidence. I hope you can feel inspired to take your first step too.

I’m here because I believe calm is learnable… connection is buildable… and your home can feel safe again. This is a new layer of growth for me, and I’m excited to bring what I’m learning back to the families I serve.

As I am often reminded, sometimes our deepest pain helps us find where we can help others. This isn’t just about getting a certificate…it’s about transformation so I can really help others do the same.

Thank you
