So, I started keeping a list. Scratch that, I added to my lists of lists—what can I say, I'm a list-maker. The particular list I'm referring to here, though, is a list I started to help me keep track of all the topics that cross my mind that I think I might want to write about when I've got the time....

Do you ever have those days (weeks?) where there's just so much? So much interaction, so much talking, so much thinking, so few breaks, so little downtime. This was one of those weeks. And here I am at 5:51pm on a Saturday evening ignoring my pupper's behest to be walked, fed, pet...something...having just finished my second grad school paper of the day, and I am out of words....

Fall semester started last week. Yep- fall semester. I'm back in school. Started in May—gently, with one class, while on furlough from my day job. It started as a bit of extra work to do each week, but very manageable. Fast forward a few months, and I'm back at my actual job 4 days a week, soon to be 5, taking two classes and realizing that (design classes aside) undergrad was a lot less work. [ 497 more words ]

Today marks the fifth anniversary of my husband's death. He wasn't old. He wasn't sick. He was a happy, healthy, youthful 41-year-old that just happened to be in the wrong fu***ng place at the wrong fu***ng time. His death was sudden and tragic and, without a doubt, the single worst thing that could have happened to 5-years-ago me. I shared a bit… [ 300 more words ]

We make decisions every single day (or at least try to), and isn't it amazing how BIG they feel? I mean, not all of them, but with pandemics and protests, systemic racism and elections... Even in "normal" times. Maybe it's just a job change or considering a move. Maybe it's things that we experience without deciding or choosing, like the loss of a loved one. [ 599 more words ]

Back in my military (spouse) days, John and other pilot friends used to refer to "back-in-the-saddle" flights. As the name implies, a back-in-the-saddle flight is a chance for the pilot to reacquaint themselves with flying/flying a particular aircraft on occasions when they'd been out of the cockpit too long. Let's consider this my back-in-the-saddle post. It's been awhile since I've written, but not for a lack of ideas—there are no less than four post topics burning a hole in my brain as they wait somewhat-less-than-patiently to find their way onto the screen. If you've been reading this blog lately, you know I've been getting quite personal. Every now and again it occurs to me that I started this whole journey blogging as a freelance creative to talk about work. Ya know, design, copy. Professional stuffs. Let's get back to that for a second. Among the personal things I've shared lately is that I am currently wrestling with a hip injury—and by "wrestling" I mean limping, hobbling, needles, and broad-spectrum bitching and complaining, generally. Today I finally gained access (thanks, Jeremy!) to the files trapped on a home server that John had built many moons ago. I knew there were pictures on there, but wasn't sure exactly what I'd find. Suffice it to say that I spent a few hours walking down memory lane—and balling. Oops. I got to relive so many amazing memories, I feel like I've lived three lifetimes. [ 185 more words ]

On this day last year, I lost my best girl. I wasn't the only one that loved her, so "we" would be a more accurate pronoun here. If you know me at all, saying I'm a dog person is an understatement, so of course I miss her. But, I actively miss her. Her presence, her attitude—she either couldn't get closer to you or she could give a sh*t, no in between. [ 138 more words ]

I don't usually post about controversial things, but I'm almost certain I will p**s some people off with this one. I'm ok with that. I've also made a point not to talk much about COVID-19 because, well, it sucks. But I find I have something to say about the recent "re-open protests," so here it is. My job has been directly impacted by this virus. [ 647 more words ]

So, I miiiiiiiight have started this post about 100 years ago and subsequently left it sitting, empty and alone, with nothing but a clever title for weeks. Might have. But here I am, determined to write down all the thoughts that have been delicately burning a hole in my brain for what feels like an eternity. For you literalists out there, it hasn't… [ 1,079 more word ]
