Tree Down? Here’s Who to Call & What You Need to Know.

Storms can hit fast, and when trees fall, it’s not always clear who is responsible for the cleanup. We want to make sure you have the right information to stay safe and get help quickly.

🛑 First Step: Is it a Safety Emergency? If a tree is touching power lines, DO NOT TOUCH IT. Call NIPSCO immediately at 1-800-4NIPSCO. If a tree is blocking a main road or causing a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

🏛️ City Responsibility (Public Right-of-Way) The City of Gary handles trees that fall in the streets, alleys, sidewalks, or on the "parkway" (the grass strip between the sidewalk and curb).
📞 Report it: Call 311 or General Services at (219) 882-8445.
📱 App: Report via the "Gary 311" mobile app.
