Estrogen in your face cream? Yes… and there’s real science behind it.

If you’ve been seeing commercials or ads about estrogen creams for facial aging—you’re not imagining it.
This conversation is moving from quiet compounding rooms into the mainstream.

But let’s break it down the right way.

As women move through perimenopause and menopause, estrogen levels decline. And while we often talk about symptoms like hot flashes or sleep changes, what’s happening at the skin level is just as significant:

• Collagen production drops
• Skin thickness decreases
• Elasticity declines
• Hydration and barrier function weaken

In fact, studies suggest women can lose up to 30% of their skin collagen in the first 5 years after menopause.

That’s not cosmetic. That’s physiology.

Estrogen receptors exist in the skin—meaning estrogen isn’t just a hormone for reproduction, it’s a skin-regulating signal.

When applied topically (in carefully formulated, low-dose preparations), estrogen has been shown to:
• Improve skin thickness and elasticity
• Increase collagen content
• Enhance hydration and barrier function

This is why you’re now seeing both commercial products and compounded prescriptions entering the space.

But here’s the part that matters most—and often gets missed:

Not all estrogen creams are created equal.

The dose, the type of estrogen (estradiol vs estriol), the base, the site of application, and systemic absorption all matter. This isn’t just “anti-aging skincare”—this is hormone therapy at the skin level.

And that means:
It should be individualized.
It should be monitored.
And it should be guided by a healthcare professional.

We’ve spent years telling women their skin changes are something to “fight” with serums and lasers…
When in reality, many of these changes are driven by a hormonal shift.

You can’t fully treat a hormone-driven problem with surface-level solutions alone.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, this is where we bridge the gap—combining compounding expertise, hormone knowledge, and personalized care to support women through every stage.

Because this isn’t about chasing youth.
It’s about understanding your biology—and supporting it intelligently.

Creatine after 30?

This might be one of the most underrated health decisions you can make.

Most people hear “creatine” and think:
Bodybuilders. Muscle. Gym supplements.

But the science tells a much bigger story.

Creatine is a naturally occurring compound that helps your body produce ATP—your cells’ primary energy currency.

And here’s what changes after 30:

• Muscle mass gradually declines
• Recovery slows
• Brain energy metabolism becomes less efficient
• Fatigue becomes more noticeable

Creatine helps buffer that decline.

Research shows creatine supplementation may support:
• Lean muscle mass and strength
• Recovery and training capacity
• Cellular energy production
• Bone health (especially when paired with resistance training)

But here’s the part most people miss—

Creatine isn’t just for performance.
It’s for preservation.

After 30, the goal isn’t just to perform better—
it’s to maintain strength, resilience, and independence for decades to come.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we think beyond trends—we focus on what supports your body long-term.

Curious if creatine is right for you? Let’s talk about how to use it safely and effectively.

Hormone therapy isn’t for everyone.
But informed choice should be.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we work with both patients and providers navigating one of the fastest-growing—and most misunderstood—areas in healthcare:
perimenopause and menopause care.

Here’s what we see every day:

Women being told:
“This is just aging.”
“Nothing you can do.”
“Just push through it.”

Meanwhile experiencing:
• Poor sleep
• Anxiety and mood shifts
• Loss of strength and muscle
• Bone density changes
• Weight gain and metabolic changes
• Vaginal and urinary symptoms

These aren’t just inconveniences.
They are physiologic consequences of hormonal change.

And yet—many providers were never fully trained in modern hormone therapy.
Many patients are left searching online, piecing together information on their own.

This is where pharmacists step in.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we help bridge the gap by:
• Supporting providers with evidence-based guidance and compounding options
• Individualizing formulations (dosing, delivery systems, combinations)
• Educating patients on risks, benefits, and expectations
• Ensuring safety, monitoring, and quality

Because this isn’t about “anti-aging.”
And it’s not about a one-size-fits-all approach.

It’s about restoring balance where appropriate—and empowering women with real options.

You don’t have to suffer in silence.
And providers don’t have to navigate this alone.

Whether you’re a patient or a provider—we’re here as your partner in care.

Most people associate probiotics with bacteria, but there are a few other probiotic microorganisms, including friendly yeasts.

One of these ‘friendly yeasts’ is Saccharomyces boulardii. S. boulardii is a beneficial, non-colonizing, probiotic yeast.

Initially discovered in 1920, this probiotic yeast has been the subject of numerous trials and studies. It is safe for human consumption and has multiple benefits!

Some of S. boulardii's benefits include:
• Improves secretory IgA release
• Degrades non-beneficial toxins
• Protects gastric and intestinal mucosa
• Decreases the passage of lipopolysaccharides (LPS)
Clearly, this powerful yeast has many uses!

RestorFlora™ is an all-star supplement that combines S. boulardii with spore-based probiotic strains Bacillus subtilis HU58™, and Bacillus clausii (SC-109).

Not every woman needs hormone therapy.
But every woman deserves an informed choice.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we want to be clear:

Hormone therapy isn’t for everyone.
Some women cannot take it.
Some choose not to.

And that choice should always be respected.

But here’s where we see the gap—
true choice requires accurate framing, not fear, dismissal, or silence.

Because too often, the conversation stops at:
“It’s natural.”
“Just part of aging.”
“Nothing to do.”

Let’s challenge that—respectfully.

If we believe the body is intelligently designed, we also have to acknowledge that so is the human mind.
And through that, we’ve developed ways—through science, medicine, and yes, even plant-based compounds—to support the body when systems decline.

We don’t call insulin “cheating.”
We don’t call antibiotics “unnatural interference.”
We don’t tell someone with vision loss to just “accept it.”

So why is support for female hormone health framed differently?

Because this isn’t about chasing youth.
And it’s not about pretending to be 25.

It’s about capacity.

• The ability to think clearly
• To sleep well
• To maintain muscle and bone
• To move, lift, live independently
• To feel like yourself in your own body

There is nothing noble about unnecessary suffering.
There is nothing vain about wanting your brain sharp, your bones strong, and your body capable at 70, 80, beyond.

Natural does not always mean optimal.
And common does not mean acceptable.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we believe women deserve the same level of thoughtful, individualized support we offer every other system in the body.

Not to escape aging—
but to age with strength, clarity, and independence.

Whether you’re exploring options or supporting patients—we’re here to guide the conversation.

Peptides just made headlines… but let’s slow this down for a second.

On April 15th, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration removed 11 peptides from its “Category 2” list.

And almost immediately, I started getting questions:
“Does this mean they’re safe now?”
“Can pharmacies compound them again?”
“So it’s basically approved… right?”

👉 No.

Here’s the nuance that matters:
Removing something from Category 2 does NOT mean it’s approved for compounding or safe for patient use.
It just means it’s no longer formally flagged as “prohibited.”

These peptides are still:
❌ Not on the 503A Bulks List
❌ Not approved for compounding
❌ Still undergoing review by the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee

This is a process… not a green light.

Now let’s talk about the part that actually is concerning
Because while regulations are catching up…
Patients aren’t waiting.

Right now, many people are already using peptides labeled:
“research grade”
“not for human consumption”
purchased online or through unverified sources

Let me ask you something:
👉 If something says “not for human consumption”… why are we injecting it into humans?
This is where the real risk lives.

When you step outside regulated pharmacy channels, you lose:
sterility assurance (especially critical for injections)
dosing accuracy
quality control
accountability
And you’re left with: uncertainty… in your body.

I get it.
The desire to feel better, recover faster, optimize performance, or change your body is real.
But here’s the tension we have to be honest about.

👉 Are we optimizing… or experimenting on ourselves?

As a pharmacist, I’m not anti-innovation.
I’m pro-safety, pro-evidence, and pro-informed decisions.

Because what you put into your body—especially something injectable—should never be based on:
a trend
a podcast
or a website with no accountability

Bottom line:
This FDA update is important…
…but it does NOT mean peptides are ready for clinical use.

And it definitely doesn’t make “research grade” products safe.

💬 I’m curious—

Have you seen peptides becoming more common in your circle (patients, athletes, colleagues)?
What questions are you getting right now?

Let’s talk about it 👇

Are you so tired… of being so tired?

If you’re in perimenopause or menopause and struggling with sleep—you are not alone.
At Hobbs Pharmacy, this is one of the most common and most disruptive concerns we hear.

Let’s talk about a hormone that doesn’t get enough credit:

Progesterone.

Too often, it’s described as “just the uterus hormone”—something you only need if you have a uterus to protect.

That’s true… but it’s only part of the story.

Progesterone has powerful effects beyond the reproductive system. It plays a role in:

• Sleep architecture and quality
• Calming the nervous system
• Mood and anxiety regulation
• Brain signaling (via GABA pathways)
• Possibly even bone health

This is why many women describe progesterone as a game-changer for sleep and calm.

We hear questions like:
“Do I need progesterone if I’m only using vaginal estrogen?”
“Can I take it without a uterus?”
“What if I can’t take estrogen—can progesterone alone help?”
“Why does it feel amazing for some… and not for others?”

Here’s the nuance:

If you’re using local vaginal estrogen, progesterone is not medically required for uterine protection because absorption is minimal.

But “not required” doesn’t mean no benefit.

Many women still experience meaningful improvements in:
Sleep
Stress resilience
Overall sense of calm

Even without systemic estrogen.

And importantly—progesterone is often one of the most widely tolerated and agreed-upon options across providers.

Anxiety isn’t always just a “chemical imbalance.” Sometimes… it’s depletion.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we often hear patients say they’ve been told their anxiety is something that simply needs to be “treated.”

And while medications absolutely have a place, there’s another side of the conversation we don’t talk about enough:
What if the brain is missing what it needs to function well?

One nutrient getting increasing attention is L-theanine—an amino acid naturally found in green tea.

Here’s why it matters:

L-theanine crosses into the brain and supports a state of calm, focused alertness by increasing alpha brain wave activity (the same state seen in meditation). It also helps modulate key neurotransmitters like GABA, serotonin, and dopamine—all critical for mood, stress response, and sleep.

But here’s the bigger picture…

Chronic stress, poor sleep, high training loads, and even gut health imbalances can deplete the very systems we rely on to stay resilient.
In those cases, the question becomes not just “what do we treat?” but “what do we restore?”

Research suggests L-theanine (typically 200–400 mg) may help:
• Reduce perceived stress and anxiety
• Improve sleep quality
• Support focus and cognitive performance

When paired with nutrients like magnesium, the effects on nervous system regulation may be even more meaningful.

This isn’t about replacing medication.
It’s about understanding the full picture—supporting the brain, the body, and the root causes that often get overlooked.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we believe in combining clinical expertise with whole-person care to help you feel and perform at your best.

If you’ve been dealing with anxiety, poor sleep, or mental fog, we’re here to help you explore safe, personalized options.

“Isn’t hormone therapy unnatural?”

We hear this a lot at Hobbs Pharmacy—
From patients… and sometimes even from providers navigating this evolving space.

And it’s a fair question. It deserves respect.
But it also deserves a deeper look.

Because underneath that question is an assumption we don’t talk about enough:

That female decline is “normal”… and therefore untouchable.

Let’s zoom out.

We replace thyroid hormone when levels drop.
We treat type 1 diabetes with insulin.
We correct vision with glasses.
We support bone and joint health when structure fails.

We intervene—every day—when biology shifts in a way that impacts quality of life.

So why is female hormone loss treated differently?

Men experience a gradual decline in testosterone over decades.
Women can lose up to 80–90% of estradiol within just a few years.

That’s not a gentle transition.
That’s a physiologic shift with whole-body consequences.

And estrogen isn’t just a “reproductive hormone.”

It plays a role in:
• Bone density and remodeling
• Muscle mass and recovery
• Skin and collagen integrity
• Brain function (sleep, mood, cognition)
• Cardiovascular and metabolic health

We’ve normalized women feeling worse…
Instead of asking why—and what we can do about it.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we believe women deserve informed, individualized conversations—not dismissal.

If you’ve been told “this is just part of aging,” let’s talk.

Who says pharmacy isn’t a team sport?

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we spend our days focused on precision, patient care, and performance—but behind every prescription filled and every patient interaction is something just as important:

A strong team.

This week, we hit pause for a few minutes and leaned into something different—a team challenge to build the tallest freestanding structure using only 20 paper towels.

Simple? Maybe.
Easy? Not even close.

What came out of it wasn’t just a few creative (and slightly questionable ) engineering attempts—it was a reminder of what makes a high-performing team:

• Communication under pressure
• Creative problem-solving
• Trust in each other’s ideas
• And a whole lot of laughter along the way

Because here’s the truth—the way we work together behind the scenes directly impacts how we care for our patients.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we’re not just building structures…
We’re building a culture of collaboration, growth, and support—so we can show up better for our community every single day.

Question for you: What’s one quality you think makes a team truly great?

When Skin Changes After Menopause, Hormones May Be Part of the Picture

Many women notice something surprising as they move through perimenopause and menopause.

The skincare routine that used to work suddenly doesn’t.

Skin may feel thinner, drier, or less elastic. Fine lines appear more quickly, and healing from small cuts or irritation can take longer. While this is often blamed entirely on aging, hormonal changes play a significant role.

Estrogen helps maintain skin thickness, collagen production, hydration, and elasticity. When estrogen levels decline during menopause, the skin’s structure changes too. In fact, research suggests women can lose up to 30% of skin collagen in the first several years after menopause.

Because of this connection, there has been growing interest in whether topical estrogen—such as estriol or estradiol creams—may help support skin health when applied to the face.

It’s important to understand that this approach is considered off-label use. While there is strong biological evidence supporting estrogen’s role in skin health, long-term clinical trials specifically studying facial application are still limited.

That means this type of therapy should never be self-directed or done without medical guidance.

Hormones are powerful and affect many systems in the body. What may be appropriate for one person may not be right for another depending on medical history, medications, and overall hormone health.

At Hobbs Pharmacy, we work closely with patients and healthcare providers when questions arise about menopause, hormone therapy, and individualized care. In some cases, custom compounded options may be part of the conversation when commercially available products do not meet a patient’s needs.

If you’re curious about the relationship between hormones, skin health, and menopause, our pharmacists are always happy to help guide the conversation and point you toward reliable information.

Healthy skin isn’t just about what you put on your face—it’s often connected to what’s happening inside the body as well.
