We’re honored to share that the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network has recognized Dr. John W. Rothwell III, DNP, APRN, for his unwavering commitment to Service Before Self.
"FNPN would like to recognize FNPN member and Autonomous Practice SOS Member, John Rothwell III, DNP, APRN, for Service Before Self. Dr. John W. Rothwell III is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice with more than 30 years of experience in healthcare. He began his career in 1989 as a U.S. Army flight medic, serving in combat with the 2/1 Attack Helicopter Regiment before continuing his service in both the Florida and New Hampshire National Guard.
Dr. Rothwell earned his nursing degree in 1998 and went on to complete his BSN, MSN, and DNP at the University of Central Florida. His clinical experience spans critical care, oncology, cardiology, emergency medicine, and urgent care. In 2018, he founded Island Direct Primary Care in Merritt Island, Florida, and is currently building out Main Street Direct Primary Care as his second DPC practice in Brevard County, further expanding access to affordable, patient-centered healthcare.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Rothwell has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing and teaches nationally with Provider Practice Essentials, where he trains nurse practitioners in advanced clinical skills. He is also a mentor to DNP students and an advocate for the advancement of the nursing profession.
Dr. Rothwell is deeply committed to service and philanthropy. He provides volunteer medical care through Matthew’s Hope in Brevard and Orange Counties while also serving as Vice Chairman, participates in international medical missions to Guatemala, serves as chaplain, trainer, and player for Old Breed Rugby, a veterans’ rugby organization that supports Gold Star families, and is actively involved with multiple philanthropies that support women and children who have suffered intimate partner violence and human trafficking. His work reflects a lifelong dedication to improving health, building community, and serving with compassion."
